So the SPN panel is on Sunday at 11:45 and I went squee because my Harry Potter panel isn't until that afternoon so I wouldn't have a conflict this year.

But then today, it was announced that Doctor Who and Torchwood "are slated to make a huge crash at San Diego's Comic Con International."

Both panels are Sunday. (Doctor Who at 11AM Torchwood at 2:15PM)

Torchwood's panel is slated to include Russell T. Davies, Julie Gardner, Eros Lyn, and John Barrowman. Doctor Who's panel is said to include all of the above except John and instead they have David Tennant.

David. Tennant.

Oh, that is lovely. Gah, how in hell am I going to choose between Tennant and Supernatural?!?!?!?!?

What I will make it to, for sure, is on Saturday night, from 7:30-10:00PM - they will be airing Planet of the Dead and the final episode of Children of Earth as a double feature.

Fic Recs of the Day:
Two SPN crossovers - one is crack and one is simply funny.
Not the Music in Me - a bodyswap-crossover between SPN and High School Musical from [livejournal.com profile] rionaleonhart. It is quite fabulous!
Attack of the Five Foot Ten Woman by [livejournal.com profile] musesfool - it's a SportsNight/SPN crossover that is perfectly voiced, wonderfully characterized and amazingly plotted. Six steps beyond Thespis, you'll find... Winchesters at CSS.

Finally finished my Sam's Birthday vid, which I'll be posting on Friday. OMG this was hellish to render - something was glitching in the last half of the vid, and I ended up having to cut and paste said half into a new file, and then splice the two together. At least I didn't have to tweak with the timing, like I did with Badlands earlier this month. Why can't the tech side of vidding be easy?

The good thing is, in going through all the eps of SPN, I found the image I used in this icon. It's about one fifth of a second in the car towards the start of 1.02, and unless you watch frame-by-frame you'll miss it. Yes, the TV Guide images are lovely, but I like my little Sleepy Sammy icon, too.

Perhaps because I'm damned tired right now and still have to finish cleaning up the playroom because someone thought it was a good idea to get my son the LEGO Mosaic for his birthday. Two hundred single-sized lego bricks. On the floor. I just want to vacuum them up. But I won't.

I'm traveling this week, and in packing my carry-on, I realised that every year, for the last few years, I seem to add an additional piece of technology to my satchel. I've been carrying a camera on trips since I was about six, and I got my first walkman before I went to camp at 11. I added a laptop in 1992, a cellphone circa 1993, a Newton in 1994 (but I stopped carrying it the following year), a digital camera in 1999, an MP3 player in 2000 or 2001 (I had a Rio Riot - it was huge, and held I think 20 GB of content, which was a lot back then), a digital video camera in 2003, an ipod in 2004 and now, my GPS is coming on the road with us, which will help us get around on the backroads of NY State.

And everything needs its own charging cable.

My tech takes up a carry on bag; my cosmetics fill a quart-sized plastic bag.

In 1992, or 1997, or even 2001, it was quite the opposite.

TheWB is relaunching as a website. )

Will do a vidding-and-fics-I-posted-this-month wrapup post from the road tomorrow, including yesterday's Schoolhouse Rock Parody, Unpack Your Adjectives...
ETA: BBCAmerica shows are now on iTunes, including Torchwood. Only one ep of Robin Hood up so far...
heidi: (Booze!)
I've never done one of these before - probably because I've never created this many fanworks in all the time I've been on LJ. I did most of my fanfic writing back in 2000 and the firt half of 2001, and then did maybe an additional 10,000 words in the five years that followed. This year, though, I discovered a love for drabbling post-episode of shows I loved, and a bit of an obsession with vidding, so I finally can do My Fan Creativity Year in Review )
heidi: (Ducktor Who)
Title: Almost Like a Prophecy

Music:
The Wizard and I, originally from Wicked, but as sung by John Barrowman at last year's A Musical Christmas

Details:
This is one of the songs I have listened to most in the last year, but it wasn't until the end of S3 of Doctor Who that it really resonated for me as a perfect Jack Harkness song - and I've wondered how much John knew about the plot of S3 of DW when he sang it last November.

Spoilers for all of Torchwood to date, and for S1 and S3 of Doctor Who.

Dedicated to [livejournal.com profile] ignipes on the occasion of her birthday - please note that the vid specifically includes boys in cages, for her (and your) viewing enjoyment - and [livejournal.com profile] rookie131 as she spent today having contractions and is a few days from her due date and needed a distraction!

Watch it behind the cut... )

Low quality version here on YouTube

High-res version here on MegaUpload

And if you just want an MP3 of the song, click here.

Yes, I am still getting the backlog of vids that live in my brain into a more share-able format. Taking the weekend off to go to Orlando and pondering what to do next. Not sure about whether I want to do something as a multifandom vid, or do two or possibly even three vids - one for each fandom - to the same song.

Heh.

[livejournal.com profile] malachan - you owe me a drink!

Back in December, 2006, after watching the They Keep Killing ep of Torchwood, I posted in [livejournal.com profile] torch_wood with a certain theory (which is technically only spoilery for said ep, but you might not want to read either of the links above if you haven't yet seen S3 ep 13 of Doctor Who)...

Now that I can have an insane number of people on my flist, I want to have a filter that's a mostly-fic-reading filter - communities, writing journals, newsletters and people who post fics on their LJs.

I want to add any of you who write & post fics to it - I think I have a good idea of who's writing at present, but just to make sure...

[Poll #942067]

Anything in Harry Potter, Supernatural, Heroes, Doctor Who/Torchwood and crossovers regarding same would be greatly appreciated!

I'm having a lovely day! Good things happened in the realms of FictionAlley's March challenge (going up tomorrow), Phoenix Rising hotel and event arrangements, Portus 2008 website & email goodies and other shiny things, and I got POlice tickets which are about 1/2 to 1/3 the cost they are in other cities (it's probably cheaper to fly here and see them than it is to see them in NYC, if anyone wants to come down) plus I got my hair colour updated and it's a lovely shade of reddish, squee! Plus, LJ is working again with tweaks on the Update page and things are again loading and I'm considering changing my LJ theme - what would you suggest I switch to? It needs to be something that works well on my handheld, and I'd love to be able to include a tag cloud...

But there are things to post about!

First - does anyone know where I go to change my LJ viewing options regarding seeing things behind a cut when I load my flist?

Second...
[livejournal.com profile] fannish5's question of the week is:
What five fannish vids would you make if you could?

These are the videos that live in my brain:
...maybe if the new desktop gets purchased for Hubby's birthday next month, I will finally re-learn vidding (I did it on tapes for years in high school & college) and get to make...

1. A Rose-centric one to the Camera Obscura cover of Modern Girl. It's a folky, plaintive and very toned down cover of the Sheena Easton song and it just *screams* post-Doomsday Rose.
"She's getting by doing what she can. She is free to be what she wants to be..."

2. A Petrelli-focused one to Crowded House's World Where You Live. One of their many songs about space and knowledge and learning about the people in your life and understanding and... "Come on now, there must be something missing. That golden one leads a double life - you'll find out. Tell me, I don't know where you go - do you climb into space to the world where you live?"

3. A Supernatural-focused one to the Finn Brothers' Won't Give In. "Once in a while, I return to the fold, to the people I call my own. Even if time is just a flicker of light and we all have to die alone. What does it mean when you belong to someone, and you're born with a name and you carry it on?"

See a Finn Brothers theme going on here? I've got these fanmixes I've been working on for both Heroes and SPN that are *all* Finn Bros songs because nobody does magic and science and sky and earth and roadtrips and kitchens and families and brotherhood better. Ever, and for all time.

4. A Sirius-centric one to A Boat on the Sea from the Grace of My Heart soundtrack. The song could be, to my mind, partly from harry's perspective and partly from Remus's and it's just heartbreaking but there aren't enough images from canon yet and maybe after OotP?
I remember when I met him
He blew in like the wind
No one was more beautiful
Or dangerous than him
He blew through my soul
Like a tangerine wind
He'll be coming out soon

5. Another Petrelli-one - more Nathan than Peter this time, I think, to The Only Living Boy in New York, as covered by Everything But the Girl, because the beat is just a little more upbeat than the Simon & Garfunkle original (which you can find on the Garden State soundtrack).

Half of the time we're gone but we don't know where,
And we don't know when.
Tom, get your plane right on time.
I know you've been eager to fly now.
Hey let your honesty shine, shine, shine

Paul wrote it for Art when he was about to do a film in Mexico, but the evocation of New York and flying and... It just feels right.

And if there was a sixth, it would be a Jack-centric one incorporating Torchwood and Doctor Who and it would be set to "It's Alright With Me", but I'm hoping for good clips from the next season of Who so I'm not really mentally working this one through yet like I am for the others.

And if anyone wants to gack any of these ideas, PLEASE DO!
heidi: (EmoBoys)
Someone caught a bit of filming for Doctor Who and uploaded a few pics, including focusing on John and David in a scene at Cardiff's City Centre.

How many weeks until the new season starts?
heidi: (sidekick)
Ah, lj-email-posting, how I love you when the new posting page is wiggy on the sidekick!

Now, am I behind the times or on a precipice? Because how did I not know there was a Foo Fighters cover of Baker Street, and if it's something everyone already knows about then has there been a House/Wilson vid using it yet, and if not why not, espeically as I think I just realised after about 25 years of listening to this song that the second-person-narrator character ends up crashing overnight at the place of his into-one-night-stands friend?

I already really need to learn vidding so I can do that vid about Rose set to Camera Obscura's cover of Modern Girl and something Jack-centric using Teddy Thompson's cover of Don't Dream It's Over so maybe I should just add that to the list but I really haven't seen all the eps of House so I know I'd be missing some amazing clip-inclusion anyway.

Does everyone know that tomorrow, XMradio.com will have an all-Chanukah station for a day? I'm sure both of Adam Sandler's songs will be in there but I'm curious to know what else they're going to play. I think you can still get a free day-trial of XM via their website so if you're curious it should be worth a listen.

My ipod seems to know that it's the holiday season - it played both Do They Know It's Christmas (both versions) and the first of Sandler's Hanukah Songs this week. Can it tell it's been 50ish weeks since I played them last?

And a moment of curiosity - what's your favorite holiday film? There's this obscure New Adventures of Heidi where she meets a girl named Elizabeth and they go to NYC, which I think is from 79 or 80 that I truly love but I think Love Actually is probably what I most want to watch in the season this year.

What's your pick?
And behind the cut, I edited the 12 days of Xmas into 8 days of Hanukah... )

I looked around the Torchwood site today for the first time and read some of the "backstory" and files content, and came across this (SPOILER WARNING! NWS if your W has issues with m/m content of a PG-13 variety!) which might be from Ep 6 or later. I'm not sure.
It reads like fanfic. And that's not a bad thing. But it's got all the tropes of a Jack/OC story and if I saw it posted as a chapter in a fic on [livejournal.com profile] time_and_chips I wouldn't blink an eye. But it's canon! And I find that so amusing.

Although not *quite* as amusing as John Barrowman in Megaladon 3 (NWS!)!

And more from the site behind the cut )

Finally, the first trailer for bbc3's Captain-Jack-focused, "post-watershed", Doctor Who spinoff, Torchwood.

Someone has uploaded a circa 2002 Boots ad where David Tennant is The Guy, at a computer, and drinking wine. You can see if here. This is just demanding iconization. Maybe I should learn how...

A batch of Studio 60 icons by [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge including one that animates the Beach Scene from 1.03 in a not-worksafe manner.
