Vidding, fic recs, travel, etc.
Apr. 29th, 2008 09:51 pmFic Recs of the Day:
Two SPN crossovers - one is crack and one is simply funny.
Not the Music in Me - a bodyswap-crossover between SPN and High School Musical from
rionaleonhart. It is quite fabulous!
Attack of the Five Foot Ten Woman by
musesfool - it's a SportsNight/SPN crossover that is perfectly voiced, wonderfully characterized and amazingly plotted. Six steps beyond Thespis, you'll find... Winchesters at CSS.
Finally finished my Sam's Birthday vid, which I'll be posting on Friday. OMG this was hellish to render - something was glitching in the last half of the vid, and I ended up having to cut and paste said half into a new file, and then splice the two together. At least I didn't have to tweak with the timing, like I did with Badlands earlier this month. Why can't the tech side of vidding be easy?
The good thing is, in going through all the eps of SPN, I found the image I used in this icon. It's about one fifth of a second in the car towards the start of 1.02, and unless you watch frame-by-frame you'll miss it. Yes, the TV Guide images are lovely, but I like my little Sleepy Sammy icon, too.
Perhaps because I'm damned tired right now and still have to finish cleaning up the playroom because someone thought it was a good idea to get my son the LEGO Mosaic for his birthday. Two hundred single-sized lego bricks. On the floor. I just want to vacuum them up. But I won't.
I'm traveling this week, and in packing my carry-on, I realised that every year, for the last few years, I seem to add an additional piece of technology to my satchel. I've been carrying a camera on trips since I was about six, and I got my first walkman before I went to camp at 11. I added a laptop in 1992, a cellphone circa 1993, a Newton in 1994 (but I stopped carrying it the following year), a digital camera in 1999, an MP3 player in 2000 or 2001 (I had a Rio Riot - it was huge, and held I think 20 GB of content, which was a lot back then), a digital video camera in 2003, an ipod in 2004 and now, my GPS is coming on the road with us, which will help us get around on the backroads of NY State.
And everything needs its own charging cable.
My tech takes up a carry on bag; my cosmetics fill a quart-sized plastic bag.
In 1992, or 1997, or even 2001, it was quite the opposite.
TheWB is relaunching
As I understand it, this is related to the Warner Bros issues with Dawn Ostroff, and gives the company a way to monetize their shows with a bit more of their own control. The press release says McG is creating some content for them - so perhaps we will see more of Ghostfacers, but on the web, and not on the CW?
Will do a vidding-and-fics-I-posted-this-month wrapup post from the road tomorrow, including yesterday's Schoolhouse Rock Parody, Unpack Your Adjectives...
ETA: BBCAmerica shows are now on iTunes, including Torchwood. Only one ep of Robin Hood up so far...

TheWB is relaunching
TheWB.com will also feature full episodes from a dynamic lineup of programs that have shaped popular culture and inspired devoted followings over the past decade, including “Friends,” “Smallville,” “One Tree Hill,” “Buffy, the Vampire Slayer,” “All of Us,” “The O.C.,” “Gilmore Girls,” “The Wayans Bros.,” “Veronica Mars,” “Everwood,” and “Roswell,” among others to be announced. The site will capitalize on the intense association fans have with these landmark series and, through the use of new technology, will make the experience of watching them a new one. Viewers will be able to communicate about these programs in a very personal way through a state-of-the-art community and social networking environment. Users will now be able to take ownership of these cherished characters and relationships and bring them into their homes on their own terms, customizing, reordering, re-editing and reinterpreting these shows in a very personal way.

Date: 2008-04-30 02:27 am (UTC)Aw, that icon is so adorable! Hari would love it.
Interesting news re: TheWB. I wonder what that'll end up being?
I haven't yet had Legos be the bane of my existence -- I currently hate Moon Sand when it gets onto the rug.

Date: 2008-04-30 02:42 am (UTC)Well, I hate Play-doh, too, and Hari never plays with it here. Because of the carpeting. Play-doh is worse than Moon Sand because it dries and sticks.
The upside of Moon Sand is that it clumps and stays damp, so it's easier to vacuum up. The downside is that it's still sand, so it does get pretty much everywhere. You're better off just playing with it outside or on a flat surface that's easy to clean.

Date: 2008-04-30 02:47 am (UTC)They should just outsource the content to us! Although I am not sure how much pornj they would want on the site!

Date: 2008-04-30 02:51 am (UTC)We could promise to keep it no more pornographic than the show...
Lot of leeway there. Subtextually.
ETA:Just found this quote -
The vidder in me is curiously thrilled by the prospect of this...

Date: 2008-04-30 04:34 am (UTC)Now it's the iPhone in the pocket and the charger wrapped up in a pair of socks, full stop. If I choose wisely and only have the one pair of shoes and wear my jacket, I can carry everything I need for 3 days in one small Timbuk2 messenger - even if I didn't keep duplicate toiletries at the old home place already.
Don't think I'm not taking that line, btw. "The guy asked me whether his machine was Windows or Mac. I stared at him and proceeded to unpack my adjectives..."

Date: 2008-04-30 02:17 pm (UTC)Interesting news about the WB. I would be a happy camper if they started showing full episodes of Smallville on WB.com not to mention some BtVS would be nice.
When I was little my mom used to see red when someone would give me LEGOs since she was the one that usually wound up stepping on all the little peices. :D
