I honestly don't think he even needed the loss of a significant Republican opponent, but now that Ryan's gone and they can't seem to find a replacement, Obama's got this in the bag. And I agree with the other commenters - this is just the beginning for him.

Totally. But don't forget - I sat and watched all of Clinton's longlonglonglong speech back in 1988 and even though it was long, he had *it* then, too.

I think Obama is Hillary's major competition for 2012.

Oooh, Ronnie is on. Is this the first speaker who'd appeared on national tv in his underwear (snl, circa 84)?

I saw Clinton's mea culpa on the Tonight Show, complete with saxophone, back in 1988, and I thought "This guy is not done with conventions."

and yeah, I think Ron Jr should have come out in the Ray-Bans (though probably not the boxers)...

Oh, man, that saxophone! He was so woobie and fun about it, and it took him so long to become comfortable with the public speaking but as he made it clear last night, he's really improved on the dynamism front.

I saw him on Carson that time. I was fascinated and entranced with him.

Couldn't believe a politician jamming with Doc Severinson and the Tonight Show orchestra.

I was sorta hoping they could get him to play during this convention.

Wouldn't that be cool? Barack Obama, son of an African immigrant, as our first African-American president. He's got a helluva "biography" and he's a fantastic speaker with great charisma. Almost makes me wish I lived in Illinois so I could vote for him. As it is, I'll still get to vote for a terrific current Senator - Russ Feingold :D

Barack Obama reminds me greatly of Rep. Harold Ford from Tennessee, who I had the honor of seeing in person. They're both African American and amazing speakers. When I watched Ford speak, I just got this feeling that this guy is going to be something big. He apparently challenged Nancy Pelosi to her leadership position in the House...

Ha, that's so fun for me to read.

Harold is an old, old friend of mine - we went to college together and spent a lot of time in dc together when I was in law school (with a cousin of his, coincidentally) and he was taking a gap year between Penn and law school at Vanderbilt. He's a wonderful guy now, and he was wonderful when we were 20 and running for class offices, and I adore him greatly.

OK, jealous now.

Well, Barack is a very good public speaker and he just talks about the right things, dear old - and probably totally fictional - Seamus, full of trust in people who are in reality the scum of the earth and don't deserve to risk Shamus' life at all. I nearly cried. This is indeed the stuff wonderful presidential candidates are made of, but I am that as long as people continue to misspell his name (which might be forever) he won't stand a chance.

I find it deeply satisfying to see him making his acceptance speech on the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King's - "I Have a Dream" speech.

It marks and remembers history all in one fluid motion. :)
