[livejournal.com profile] malachan - you owe me a drink!

Back in December, 2006, after watching the They Keep Killing ep of Torchwood, I posted in [livejournal.com profile] torch_wood with a certain theory (which is technically only spoilery for said ep, but you might not want to read either of the links above if you haven't yet seen S3 ep 13 of Doctor Who)...

[livejournal.com profile] longtimegone has just eaten her hat, virtually.

Yeah, I guessed there would be a reset button - can't kill off billions and not have one. And I'm not a huge fan of the deus ex machina concept in general, but it was well enough done in the ep.

And I loved the Master (cuffs and all) dying in the Doctor's arms, and I'm really still hoping that Lucy turns out to be Romana in S3 because that would be shiny. And I like the contrast between her and both Rose and Martha - that seeing the end of things broke her in a way that it didn't break either Rose or Martha, and I'd love to read meta and/or fic expanding on that if anyone has any.

Glad the Doctor asked Jack to come along - and we know they meet up again in the future. I wonder if Rusty always planned, as far back as S1Ep2, to have Boe be Jack-or-something-like-him but either way, it's lovely retconning, and you know the ancient songs Boe is singing are all Cole Porter.

Is that Lucy with the ring in the end? : goes back to check out her nails in the main part of the ep. Love her red dress, totally. And I still really want her to be Romana. Hey, look at my track record - I got the Boe = Jack thing, so maybe, just maybe...

Nothing more profound than this. Just...

Boe. All Boe, all the time.

ETA and I am loving the "WTFuckityfuck" reactions all over my flist on this one. People. I told you.

No, seriously, it's totally bizarre. I admit. But v v amusing nonetheless. Cyg? Drinkie now please!

And I loved the Master (cuffs and all)

The cuffs were hot. I go for men that wear those kind of cuffs. *flails*

Any show where John Simm ends up in handcuffs at some point is really all right by me. *points to icon*

and you now wonder, don't you, whether he took the cuffs off before salting and burning him, right?

I never thought they'd actually explain it, though! But when the Doctor turned into the giant head thing, I wondered a bit more, so...

Heh. Love Rusty.

Now I think I need to redo this icon with a Face of Boe screencap.

Every time I rewatch an episode with Boe, I'm going to be imaging him sing-songing, "I know something you don't know..." :)

This is why I don't theorize. Totally took me by surprise--but I loved it. Towards the end when they were back in Cardiff and Jack was getting ready to go back to Torchwood I kept thinking, aren't we supposed to hear more about the Face of Boe and then BAM! Very good :)

Of course then I tried to work out all the timelines with Face of Boe and the Dr and Rose/Martha and it just made my head hurt. Time travel is hard on my head.........

See, I'm weird because I love time travel stories, and I think one reason why I always felt that Jack = Boe was because of Marc Remillard in Julian May's Galactic Milieu series - because in that, after a few million years, a human can chance into something Totally Other.

I just wish someone could ask/has asked Rusty when he came up with the idea...

Well that can't be the *only* reason you're weird :P

Any time I try time travel I get so confused it's not even funny so I tend to skim through it if I encounter it. I'm so glad the Time Turners were all destroyed in OOTP b/c I don't think I could have handled a big time travel conclusion to everything in DH. I think it's that I'm pedantic enough that I like to be able to keep track of a timeline of a story I'm reading or watching (although I admit tv watching is less head hurty than trying to read something) in my head. And I just can't do that with time travel.

I know I've seen/heard interviews where he said that origninally the plan was for the Face of Boe to be a one off character in S1E2, but that everyone liked the design so much that they decided to bring him back. Listening to the podcast thing tonight (god I'm a nerd *sigh*) he didn't tell John Barrowman in advance just gave him the scripts and knew he'd gotten to that part when he got a phone call full of screaming laughter LOL I do love your theory that the ancient songs he sings are Cole Porter :)

Unless, of course, he's needed for something Barty-esque in HP Movie #7, which I think would be terrific. Don't expect it to happen, though...

Congratulations! That part made me smile and now I need to find Boe-related episodes to check them out.

I thought the Doctor!rising!Christ-like as everyone chanted his name was a bit cliched. But the ending of the episode with everyone leaving him *wibbles*
