Wired has an article about the Mac commercial that ran back in 1984 during the superbowl, and as a bonus, it includes the YouTube of the commercial itself. Still lovely!

And speaking of the mid-1980s, the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] jlh wrote an absolutely brilliant fic set in the Hughes-verse Sensoria, now up at Yuletide. It's Cameron Frye/Duckie Dale and it's magnificent for so many reasons. "Once you were a lonely playboy heading for a simple joy." Oak Street Beach, Chicago, summer 1986. If you've ever seen Ferris or Pretty In Pink, you owe it to yourself to read this.

And now back to modern times. [livejournal.com profile] mudblood428 created some fabulous Wayne's World-esque endings for her fic After the Die Is Cast, including a Willy Wonka-style one, a Scooby Doo ending, and a delicious (to continue the theme from above) Breakfast Club ending - You don't have to have read the fic to enjoy the endings here!

Heh, I am editing instead of spamming today. So I saw on the Heroes newsletter a few discussions about ages - the producer was quoted in the NY Post saying that Claire is 16 and Peter is 30.

I can't believe that. I think the producers have gone to the JKR School of Character Age Mathematics, because while I'll buy that Nathan is anywhere between 37 and 43, I can't believe that Peter is over 27 or 28. I know there's, mathematically, only a small difference between 28 and 30, but... I just don't see it.

: shakes head - TPTB are *so weird* sometimes.

Oh, it is shiny!

Sorry I'm being spammity today, and it seems to be mostly musicish stuff, but it seems to be a good day for mobile music and other fun things.

visual voicemail - GSM+EDGE - wifi - bluetooth - quad band is what Techdigest.tv is reporting.

Any info about colours yet?

ETA: MacRumorsLive has more info and amazing pics but their server seems to be getting innundated. I'm trying to gack an image or two to mirror...

Update from ShinyShiny.tv, who are SO on the ball in Vegas this week:
They've got to be kidding, right? The likes of Nokia might announce their phones months and months before they hit the stores, but Apple usually starts shipping its gear almost straight away. So the news that the iPhone isn't going to be out in the UK until Q4 (and not out in the US till June) is almost too strange to comprehend. Clearly, Jobs is confident that no phone competitor is going to manage to produce something more exciting in the interim, but keeping everyone hanging on like this could be a big mistake.

Having said that, the other alternative is that we're all just going to be whipping ourselves up into a frenzy of anticipation for the next 9 months, screeching with joy at every titbit of information (just like we all wet ourselves everytime anyone mentioned the Wii) and then iPhone will sell out in half a day, leaving most of us iPhone-less till 2008.

The 4GB iPhone is going to be available in the US exclusively with Cingular $499 on a two-year contract, and the 8GB will cost $599. No news who's going to be carrying it in the UK. Hopefully someone who's got a decent web tariff so that we can all actually afford to use the thing after forking out whatever enormous sum this thing will go for over here.
