heidi: (Livejournal)
1. Now I'm back home and at a desktop computer, I can start fixing my alternate Journal options. When I registered or JF back in 2004 there was no "heidi" so I got that there, and ETA I just managed to get back onto the heidi journal on GJ. Wheee.

Friend me on JournalFen (I'm Heidi there).

Friend me on GreatestJournal (I'm heidi there, too! I just figured out how to get back into it, so I'll be using that instead of the 8heidi8 one! Wheee!). I know a bunch of you have friended heidi8 on GJ. She isn't me.

My plan is to back up my LJ onto GJ and crosspost onto GJ, and use both GJ and JF as reading lists. I'd rather not overload JF's servers, so I'm not going to upload all sixish years of posts there, but I will start posting fandomy things on JF, and posting both fandomy and RL stuff on GJ, going forward. However, since I regularly post onto LJ via email (from my sidekick) and since I don;'t seem to be able to post by email to GJ or JF (and I'd be happy to get a paid account at either or both if such an option was offered) the postings there won't necessarily be as timely as they are on LJ - I'll try to make sure I crosspost within 24 hours, though.

Also, did any of you set up the InsaneJournal account for me yesterday? Because someone registered heidi8 there yesterday and it isn't me - I went and grabbed 8heidi8 as a justincase there, but I would love to have the heidi8 one there, too.

2. So I can friend those of you who've relocated...

[Poll #1034377]

3. I've been asked to help take on the Vendor Room Coordination role at Portus in Texas next summer for the time being (although they are still looking for a someone to fill the role permanently, as I am 100% sure I won't be able to attend the entire event (because of multiple family weddings & bat mitzvahs next summer) and this is a job someone needs to be on-site for). So if there's something you particularly want to see in the Vendor Room, let me know! We've already got some sensational ideas on the table for, er, the tables!

4. I also learned this morning that the reason there were too few lunches at the Saturday keynote at Prophecy was because someone either stole some 50 stickers, or possibly because someone scanned the sticker and made extra copies. We're working with hotel security to see if it was the former, but we have strong intelligence that it was the latter and either way, it was theft from the con of pushing two thousand dollars, and theft of a good time from the other attendees, and it's a horrible way to treat your fellow fans.

And [livejournal.com profile] fearsclave let me know about prophecy in the Toronto Star and MacLeans!

More later this week re SpellCast's Podcast Plays in the show's second season, as well as an update on FictionAlley Park's setup (I HOPE!).

And for now...
5. [livejournal.com profile] cutecoati has "acquired" some emails sent among the cast of the Harry Potter films sent while they were reading DH. Real Person Fic. Very funny and worth reading even if you don't normally read fanfic.

Aaron called me this morning and told me he had a stomach bug. So my desperate plan to "oversleep" and miss my flight and stay at Prophecy through the afternoon is thwarted by the massive guilt I would feel if I didn't get home on time

So I'm at the airport, waiting for my flist, and sad that I won't see how the bidding goes for the Snape in the Tub artwork. When I left the hotel just before 7 a few of the wizard rock crowd were still in the lobby and yes, the con balls are clearly Just Like Prom (But With Better Drinks (Yum, Butterbeer!)).

Fyi to US people - airport has lovely collections of UK-style Dairy Milk in Duty Free areas, wheee.

I had a wonderful time seeing everyone this weekend (and oh God I missed those of you who weren't here so much that it *ached*) and it's so weird feeling that the amazing Summer of Potter, which began for me with a fantastic lunch at Beijing at Penn in Philly with Barb and [livejournal.com profile] pennswoods, and went through the fantasticness of Phoenix Rising, my week in NY where I got to see over a dozen friends that I'd met through fandom, the OotP premiere weekend in LA, and now Prophecy (and I guess it's more like the six months of Potterishness, if I want to count back to the wonderful Wedt00bage?) and now I don't know exactly when I'll see y'all again and it makes me want to just cry.

I don't know what I'll manage for next summer - we have two weddings and a bat mitzvah taking up so much of my travel time - but hopefully I can do at least a day + night at Portus and at Terminus, and omg 2010 is going to be fantastic (and I know what I want to do in 09 but I just can't think that far ahead yet wibble).

There are two wonderful things about any HP con: seeing old friends, and meeting new people. I went yesterday to a talk by Andy from HPAlliance about how wizarding rock is getting people to make an impact in trying to stop the genocide in Darfur and how they plan to expand to other projects like disease awareness, gay rights and all-around positive thinking, and there were dozens of teens and twentysomethings who were so gorgeously squeeful about *changing the world* because they've been inspired by the HP books and yes I can be as cynical as anyone about the messages in the books but there's nothing like seeing people want to do something *positive* and *good* and it just made me melt.

1400+ people spent this weekend surrounded by fellow Potter-fans, and it was, overall, phenomenally great. My feet bloody well hurt, the cosmo last night didn't have enough lime and there was no shrine for Regulus (the woobie!) in the astoundingly amazing Hall of Reflection but when I think back on the weekend, I know I'm going to remember the *fun* (and the yummy Crunchie bars from Sheryll)! And how much fun I had hanging out with all of you.

Time to get on the plane and head home, back up my LJ and replicate it on at least one other journaling site, friend those of you who're moving elsewhere and note that I'm not stopping posting on lj even though they totally suck at communicating with their userbase and some even seem to care more for mocking users and RPing, but so much of my flist isn't HP fandom and I have all these RSS feeds here as well as a permanent account from 2005, (and I don't write anything more than PG13 anyway) but I don't want to lose track of any of you so if that means reading more than 1 site each day, I'll do it.

I'm sick in bed with a stomach bug today but really? Better today than last Thursday or next Thursday which is the day I'm traveling up to Prophecy.

But I wanted to pass on something from [livejournal.com profile] bekkio that CafePress is having a Buy Three Get One Free shirt sale, if you and your friends want to, say, pick up a slew of Government Stole My Toad, Seven Books - One Fandom, Shipper Gear, Marauders stuff or anything else from any CafePress shop (those items, specifically, are in the FictionAlley shop but there's a lot of other great stuff on the site). But if you're going to wear a shirt with spoilers for Book Seven, be careful of the company you venture into! Some people haven't finished the book yet, and you don't want to piss off any of the screeners in the airport or at Customs/Immigration, do you?

SpellCast's OotP Episode, OOTP IMAX at Prophecy, HPEF's 2010 Conference in Orlando (Incorporating The World of Harry Potter @ Universal), posting fics & essays on FictionAlley and more!

SpellCast

After some technical issues and most of our staff members running for the hills to get away from Deathly Hallows' spoilers or hibernating over the weekend to read the book, we finally release our special OotP episode!

However, this new episode is totally worth the wait and here's why:

- Greg Foster, president of IMAX, sits down with Gwen to talk about about the 3D conversion process of the last twenty minutes of the Order of the Phoenix movie.

- Josh finally gets his opportunity to chat with composer Nicholas Hooper about the music score of Order of the Phoenix.

- Sidney talks with Duff Goldman, host of Ace of Cakes on the Food Network, about the Hogwarts castle cake he made for the Order of the Phoenix premiere's after-party.

- Finally to wrap everything up, a group of SpellCasters sit down to discuss their thoughts and feelings on the Order of the Phoenix movie.

This podcast is spoiler free, so there's no need to worry if you haven't finished reading Deathly Hallows. For those of you have finished, be sure to check back soon for another special podcast covering Deathly Hallows. Download the episode here.

Prophecy & IMAX

And speaking of IMAX, Prophecy has announced a special screening of Order of the Phoenix in IMAX format; the showing will be introduced by Lorne Orleans, Senior Vice President of Film Production for IMAX Corporation. Registrants can order tickets here this week, or if there's any left, buy them on-site.

Also, since the event is close to capacity, there will be no walk-up registrations for the conference. You need to register this week if you want to go.

HPEF 2010 in Orlando
While millions of readers worldwide are about to read the final chapters of Harry Potter’s epic story, HP Education Fanon, Inc. (HPEF) is looking to his—and our—next adventure.

The end of the Harry Potter series is only the beginning of an infinite number of possibilities for the fandom.

Therefore, HPEF is proud to announce “Infinitus 2010,” a Harry Potter conference to take place July 15-18 2010 in Orlando, Florida – home to the all-new “World of Harry Potter” attraction at Universal Orlando Resort. The rest is behind the cut... )

FictionAlley Open to New Fic/Art/Essay Submissions
You can start submitting your post-DH fics and essays (including book analysis) here, or upload art here! There's already some really fantastic (and spoilery!) DH-inspired fanart, including some that's based on the epilogue, and some from the Deaprtment of Backstory.

First, gacked from [livejournal.com profile] enelya_oronar:

The Common Room at Prophecy is ‘the place’ to hang out and they are running fan fic readings throughout the day and night. The Common Room will be open 24 hours a day during Prophecy with the more adult rated fics being read late at night.

We are looking for volunteer readers and authors to sign up and share some of their favorite fic with the rest of us! Although the link states the author has to be registered that is no longer the case. We have opened it up - anyone who wants can read but he/she still needs to fill out the form.

Second, crossposted from [livejournal.com profile] hpef_news (where it was posted while I was out of town earlier this month):

[HPEF has] received a bid for an event at the newly announced and already widely anticipated Wizarding World of Harry Potter Theme Park at Universal Studios, Orlando Florida, for July 15 -- 18, 2010. The bid team is led by Kari Phillips, who can be contacted at utkari02 @ yahoo.com.

In accordance with our bid procedures, HPEF hereby issues a Call for Bids to request proposals for alternate dates or locations. Anyone interested in submitting a competitive bid for 2010 MUST contact HPEF by June 23, 2007 at hpeducationfanon @ gmail.com, and MUST submit their bid materials no later than midnight Central Time on July 15, 2007, for consideration.

Although Harry’s story reaches its final installment in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” we at HPEF know that the phenomenon JK Rowling brought about in 1997 is far from over, and we eagerly look forward to the next chapter…

Also - here's my presentation info for Prophecy:

Back When Giles was at Hogwarts... – Roundtable

The Harry Potter universe that JK Rowling created has so many attributes from different mythologies and folklores, from werewolves and witches to unicorns and black dogs - and as it's set in our real world, we Muggles find things we recognize, too, like PlayStations and bacon sandwiches. These attributes make it a natural for fanfic writers and fanartists to cross the Harry Potter universe with other fictional universes - we've even seen famous tv shows like Doctor Who cross with the Potter-verse on occasion. In this round-table, attendees are asked to bring two or three pieces of fanfiction, fanart or even published work that crosses over with the Potter-verse, to read, share and discuss as we explore the whys and hows of crossover creativity.

The Monetization of Fandom – Roundtable

This session will be a guided discussion of digital capabilities like Google ads, Amazon.com Associateships, MySpace music sales, fanartist commissions, CafePress stores, Lulu.com printing of PDFs, LiveJournal and FFN paid accounts and the furor surrounding FanLib, and their actual and potential impacts on fan creativity.
