Just a reminder that submissions need to be made for the Portus Gallery by June 15 - and over the weekend, we're going to announce something fabulous for the gallery, so if you're interested in having your art on display there, you should submit it asap!

We have an easy online submission form that can be accessed on the Portus website here.

In case we continue to have web issues, submissions may also be made by e-mailing our art gallery directly at artgallery@portus2008.org

Show. Nearly single-digit-hour-counting mode for Show.

Meep.

Hopefully Aaron will be home from Nashville in time to enable me to watch Show in real-time.

I am completely unspoiled for everything other than what was at the end of 3.15, and if I can just make it through the day...

Most of my flist seems to be in spoiler-avoidance mode, too. Those of you who are into SPN - are you more spoiled for this year's finale than you were for last year's (assuming you watched it the week it aired last year)?

Special shout-out to all the wonderful people I watched 2.22 with at Phoenix Rising last year, and the lovely ladies who joined me for 3.14 two weeks ago in NYC - I miss you all!

Is there any interest in a watching party in Orlando the day before EyeCon starts? Maybe we should discuss this when we actually know the Friday schedule, but it could be *fun*.

Today is the last day to sign up for [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen - there's so many fantastic prompts in the comm this time, and I just can't wait to see what amazingness the fandom creates this summer, between this challenge and [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang.

In Portus news - TaxMagic brings you our last discount before Portus!

registration for Portus! To register, please click here!

If you're not interested in a full day registration, but you're in the Dallas area, you should consider coming for lunch on Friday to hear Dr Henry Jenkins speak about fandom and fan creativity, or come on Saturday to hear [livejournal.com profile] moniquetrottier, lately of Raincoast Books, speak about marketing the Harry Potter novels in Canada, and about books, technology and publishing. Or join us at the afternoon teas (or, coming soon, the Sweet Shoppe Hangout). Tickets for those events are available to the general public, separate from a registration, and if you have any questions, let me know!

ETA - oh, SQUEE! Just solidified something smashing for Portus - more info coming this weekend...

... A Day to Flail re SHOW! Omg show, for which I am unspoiled except for the little bit at the end of last week's episode. Last year I was, likewise, only spoiled by the bit from the end of the ep, which is they only reason I managed to breathe in the week between 2.21 and 2.22 - because in the shot where the Door to Hell opened, we could see, if you looked *really* closely, Sam behind one of the tombstones.

I'm so wibbly about tomorrow, so I've been listening to music (I've also been playing tunes amid conversations with the amazing [livejournal.com profile] veronamay about BigBang, squeeee!) and I made a Dean Is D00000000000med (although I don't know anything spoilery about that! it's just me being suppose-ish!) Muxtape, which you can find here. I also have been working on a vid to one of the songs I included, which I hope to finish on Friday. If I'm not all red-eyed and weepy from Thursday night, because that could happen.

The thing is... )
Yay.

A year ago today, I did the name a character meme and I'm going to do it again today - without rereading any of my answers last year, in case any of my thinky-thoughts changed:
Name a character in any of my fandoms (HP, New Doctor Who, Torchwood, Heroes, Supernatural, The Eight or Tomorrow People (heck, I'll even throw the Star Wars original series and Batman Begins in for a lark) [or, in fact, any fandom I've squee-ed about in the last year - PotC, Indiana Jones, Dark Angel, IronMan, Gilmore Girls (S1 - 4 only) or Chuck,]) and I'll tell you 3-4 things about them from my personal fanon-take on said character. Please, ask! It'll keep me distracted until tomorrow.

Other distraction: update the HPEF/Portus site as (a) dragon gave us a brand new server and things have been reloaded and (b) I am trying to upgrade the vBulletin back-end and tweak a few shiny things on the site. I think the menus are being posted today for Portus?

Linky things:

[livejournal.com profile] rivkat, did you see the BrandLand article on the LaSalle vs Aristede trademark matter? Interesting for-the-layperson explanation of trademark abandonment.

Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] keepaofthecheez! Your analytical prowess is fantastic!

I posted a Bela-centric vid last night. I really need to turn [livejournal.com profile] priscellie's image into an icon. Maybe after next week, when it's far enough from the ep to not spoil people?

Gacked from... um... someone? LOL of the Day.

Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] missyjack - you made Jeffrey Dean Morgan scare me!

No, not that kind of plug.

As a part of my project to Avoid Being Spoiled for Tonight's Supernatural, I'm in an HP kind of mood today, so...

1. The hard drive on the HPEF server crashed completely, so while we're still getting everything back online (wow, there was a lot of content there!) you can get info about the event, and register, via [livejournal.com profile] portus_2008 - and if you haven't made your hotel reservation yet, you should do so now! You can do so by going here - and if you have any questions before the site goes back up (hopefully this weekend) you can ask them here.

2. Coming soon - submit a play for the SpellCast Podcast Plays that we'll be recording at Terminus and Portus this summer. And if you're attending either event, please consider setting aside some time to participate in the recording, either as an actor or an audience member.

3. If you're a full-time college or grad-school student, the Katie O'Brien Scholarship Applications are open for a few more weeks - we're awarding a writer, an artist and a community service volunteer each a $500 scholarship. Rules, info and the application are on the website.

And in non-HP news, has everyone heard the casting spoiler for S3 of Heroes? If you haven't, the spoiler info is here. Now it's time for me to go avoiding those SPN spoilers again....

Maybe I should head back to Target and pick up another Tater of the Lost Ark.

So I can clear out some of my tabs...

First, via [livejournal.com profile] linaerys,a behind the scenes shot from last night's Heroes (Warning: SPOILER!). Just... )

As the episode's director, Greg Beeman said, it's all about the abs!" (and there are spoilers for last night at that link, but amazing storyboards and photos, too! And wouldn't it be a good idea if Heroes can get Michael Rosenbaum next year when he's done with Smallville?)

And, um, is anyone able to make an icon for me from this image because, well, I like icons of people texting.

Second, One Laptop, One Child launched yesterda, and as gacked from [livejournal.com profile] boniblithe:
when you donate an XO laptop to a child in the developing world, you'll receive one for the child in your life. The price for the two laptops will be $399, $200 of which is tax-deductible. Additionally, T-Mobile is offering donors one year of complimentary access to T-Mobile HotSpot locations throughout the United States, which can be used from any Wi-Fi-capable device, including the XO laptop.

Please visit www.laptopgiving.org to participate in Give One Get One and discover more about the revolutionary XO laptop. You can also donate by calling toll-free 1-877-70-LAPTOP (1-877-705-2786). This is the only time we're making the XO laptop available to the public and quantities are limited.

Third, [livejournal.com profile] enelya_oronar did a wonderful image-heavy picspam of our Site Visit to Universal Studios Orlando this past weekend - check it out to see how much fun we had with the people from Universal and especially the Orlando HP Meet-Up Group and others who came in for it.

I am, as you probably know, an amusement park fangirl. I have loved Disney for years and will go there as often as possible, but...

This was my first time at Universal without my kids - and I've only been there once before at all - so this was my first chance to enjoy the rides and the place and the experience without restriction, and it was amazing. The way they've engineered rides like Spider-Man and The Mummy is brilliant, and the love that all the people we spoke with have for the Harry Potter series just convince me that this is going to be an amazing place. And if you get to participate in what we have planned for Infinitus 2010, you're going to have an amazing time!

But first, there's thing number four - Portus in Dallas this summer! We're still taking submissions of programming proposals, and later this week, I'll have the official announcement about a new way creative fandomers can make their crafts, zines, CDs and art available to interested attendees...
heidi: (Livejournal)
1. Now I'm back home and at a desktop computer, I can start fixing my alternate Journal options. When I registered or JF back in 2004 there was no "heidi" so I got that there, and ETA I just managed to get back onto the heidi journal on GJ. Wheee.

Friend me on JournalFen (I'm Heidi there).

Friend me on GreatestJournal (I'm heidi there, too! I just figured out how to get back into it, so I'll be using that instead of the 8heidi8 one! Wheee!). I know a bunch of you have friended heidi8 on GJ. She isn't me.

My plan is to back up my LJ onto GJ and crosspost onto GJ, and use both GJ and JF as reading lists. I'd rather not overload JF's servers, so I'm not going to upload all sixish years of posts there, but I will start posting fandomy things on JF, and posting both fandomy and RL stuff on GJ, going forward. However, since I regularly post onto LJ via email (from my sidekick) and since I don;'t seem to be able to post by email to GJ or JF (and I'd be happy to get a paid account at either or both if such an option was offered) the postings there won't necessarily be as timely as they are on LJ - I'll try to make sure I crosspost within 24 hours, though.

Also, did any of you set up the InsaneJournal account for me yesterday? Because someone registered heidi8 there yesterday and it isn't me - I went and grabbed 8heidi8 as a justincase there, but I would love to have the heidi8 one there, too.

2. So I can friend those of you who've relocated...

[Poll #1034377]

3. I've been asked to help take on the Vendor Room Coordination role at Portus in Texas next summer for the time being (although they are still looking for a someone to fill the role permanently, as I am 100% sure I won't be able to attend the entire event (because of multiple family weddings & bat mitzvahs next summer) and this is a job someone needs to be on-site for). So if there's something you particularly want to see in the Vendor Room, let me know! We've already got some sensational ideas on the table for, er, the tables!

4. I also learned this morning that the reason there were too few lunches at the Saturday keynote at Prophecy was because someone either stole some 50 stickers, or possibly because someone scanned the sticker and made extra copies. We're working with hotel security to see if it was the former, but we have strong intelligence that it was the latter and either way, it was theft from the con of pushing two thousand dollars, and theft of a good time from the other attendees, and it's a horrible way to treat your fellow fans.

And [livejournal.com profile] fearsclave let me know about prophecy in the Toronto Star and MacLeans!

More later this week re SpellCast's Podcast Plays in the show's second season, as well as an update on FictionAlley Park's setup (I HOPE!).

And for now...
5. [livejournal.com profile] cutecoati has "acquired" some emails sent among the cast of the Harry Potter films sent while they were reading DH. Real Person Fic. Very funny and worth reading even if you don't normally read fanfic.
