Hopefully fixed it when I was up with the kids during the night.

My mom emailed me this morning about a poll on MSNBC that is being freeped - right wingers who hate Obama are giving him an "F" for his first 100 days (I expect the D's are coming from people who fundamentally disagee with his policies and while I don't agree with their political viewpoints, I can see where their views come from).

It seems that voting in the poll is not limited to people in the US, and no it isn't a scientific poll but MSNBC will probably report on the results, so let your voice be heard.

Off to pack for North Carolina! WeatherUnderground says it's in the 70s during the day and in the 40s at night, so should I be ok with sweaters and a blazer, and no actual jacket?

1. Obama is on tv tonight!

2. TVWeek and others report the unsurprising but still relief-generating news that SPN has been renewed for a fifth season!

3. Jensen's been showing off his text messages from his BFF.

4. After 97 minutes on the phone, Dell got my computer working again! And it's speedier!

5. We Are Wizards will be shown at Azkatraz!

6. There is no six. But five things make it a good enough day.

ETA! There is a SEVEN!!! I forgot as I usually watch it via DVR on Wednesdays, but Leverage is on tonight! The Second David Job! Alas, 'tis the finale, but it will be back next year.

Why has nobody linked to this wonderful game of Barack - Paper - Scissors on YouTube yet? )

Definitely an amazing use of Web2.0, this is a game for the internet generation. It's fantastic, brilliant, and someone needs to give this guy a reality TV show contract, and a website with a billion in angel investors.
heidi: You're busy blogging! (BusyBlogging)
Note: Started writing this on Monday, got distracted by the awful news about Kim Manners and then by Putting Kids to Sleep - The Extended Remix, so it's now mid-day on Tuesday and I need to just post it or it'll be too long for anyone to bother reading (don't sigh, I know who you are).

One of the X-Files fandom charity sites is inviting people to contribute by donating to The American Lung Association, in memory of Kim Manners:

"Prolific director Kim Manners, beloved to fans of The X-Files and Supernatural for his skilled and innovative directing style, lost his battle with lung cancer on 25 January, 2009. To honor the firecracker genius we lost all too soon, we invite our fellow Manners fans to contribute any amount they are able beginning on 26 January, 2009. The funds will be collected and donated to The American Lung Association in Memoriam of Kim Manners, from his community of fans."

At least three people on my flist have had people on their flists break flock this week, which is just very tacky and not on. Bad form, flock-breakers.

But on the good side, three people on my flist have shared love for Billy Joel, Hall & Oates and early 90s George Michael in the last day, so that's a cheer-up.

From the Fangirling The First Couple side of the web, The New Yorker interviewed the adorable couple ) back in 1996 and they just make me so ridiculously happy. Is Michelle wearing loafers? I hope she is because it would make me adore her more (if such a thing is possible). [livejournal.com profile] deirdre_c also shared this gorgeous shot.

In further fangirling, [livejournal.com profile] officialgaiman won the Newberry Prize and basically announced it himself via Twitter. He also twittered about being wet.

And some of the guys from the cast of Heroes are being woobies on the football field ) (more here)

[livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_xmas recs. I adored a massive number of the fics posted this year, and I haven't finished reading all of them yet, but these are a few that I thought were particularly adorable:

[livejournal.com profile] chash's Waiting (Learning My Patience) - a J2 futurefic involving weddings and magazine interviews

[livejournal.com profile] sazzlette created gorgeous weechester art

[livejournal.com profile] shiplessheathen wrote Werewolves In Their Youth, an AU of Sam and Dean if John had left them with Ellen sometime in the late 80s.

Reading Rent-A-Santa from [livejournal.com profile] jeyhawk is like enjoying the good bits of the holiday season all over again in the form of an unexpected meet-cute in this J2 AU.

The premise is vaguely cracky (Intergalactic Hooker Jensen/Art Student Jared) but [livejournal.com profile] beckaandzac was creative and astoundingly glorious in I'd smother you in kisses, I'd give you outer space. The characters are wonderfully done, but what made this particularly brilliant, to me, was her "future perspective" on things like 3D and food.

(Gee, I think my rec-theme this year is Oh, Woobies!)

What to Get for the Boy Who Wants Nothing from [livejournal.com profile] emerald_angel9 is utterly schmooptastic and made of glee.

Special thanks to [livejournal.com profile] alchemise for an adorable Pushing Daisies crossover and manip here (and even though it isn't an [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_xmas fic, [livejournal.com profile] lyra_wing also posted a delicious Pushing Daisies xover this week - Coeur d'coeurs - wherein Dean gets creative with pies.

Between those two fics, and [livejournal.com profile] emerald_angel9's recent ice-cream themed Brand New Flavour, it's been a lovely month for fics to make you very, very hungry!

Also, my gift for [livejournal.com profile] bimosexual is up here - it's a J2 version of Ever After - well, it's the first fifth of it. There's Prince Jensen of the Great Nation of Texas, and beleaguered Jared who spends most of his free time in an attic in San Antonio, and the evil Lord Fredric Lehane and his bratty kids, and soon, the famed artist Jeff Morgan will arrive.
heidi: (Obama/Biden will SPARKLE!)
Keith just noted that Barack Obama has been president for 102 minutes! And they've all been wonderful!

I've been off LJ and on DailyKos (my diary about WhiteHouse.gov's update got recced!) and in aim chat this morning, but I had to swing by with my squee.

I love the whole world!
I love our president!
I love the White House
And its new residents!
I love America
And all that it can be!
I love the coverage
On MSNBC.
BOOM DEE YADA! BOOM DEE YADA!

Did anyone put a Kick Me sign on George Bush's back on his way out the door? If not, can someone do a manip of it for me?

Happy Inauguration Day to everyone!

Photo Essay Rec of the Day. Safe for work unless your workplace is full of bigots, homophobes and/or Republicans.

And in case you need to remember what it was like on November 5, The Daily Show can remind you, starting about a minute into that clip.

No, the dream isn't complete - there's still work to do for everyone. But we can do as dreamers do, and keep dreaming and keep working and keep living and make this country what it can be.

The BBC found a clip of Dr King in 1964 talking about how America could have a black president in under 40 years. Prescient and fascinating.

I am so excited to hear Obama's speech today - I'll be in a classroom of 9 and 10 year olds, across the courtyard from the room I sat in on this day in 1981, watching the Reagan inauguration. I remember that they handed out flags to everyone, rolled the TV in, and we watched - but I can't tell you a thing about the speech. No, what I remember strongly is the statement just after his speech that the hostages had been released from Iran and were being flown home.

I wonder what my son will remember from today, 28 years from now. I have a hunch he'll remember something from Obama's speech. Kudos, though, to the NY Times for finding two poems written by Barack Obama 28 years ago in Occidental College's poetry magazine. I wonder if he's written any since those days - the one about his grandfather is intense.

Redundant. I know.

Home from Disney. Had a wonderful time, but the last two days I kept feeling like I wasn't supposed to be there - I was supposed to be in DC. Didn't feel that way until Sunday, though.

Still haven't seen the new SPN, but may get to MBV with [livejournal.com profile] huntress69 this week. Still haven't seen any of yesterday's Concert in DC, or any of the MLK Day or Day of Service things, either.

I have, however, seen the sun set on President George Bush for the last fucking time, hallelujah.

With a new dawn, we will have only a few hours left of his mis=rule, and then? HOPE IS COMING!

I'll be watching with my son's class, but I will have my laptop in the classroom with me. Anyone going to be on a chat or anything during the Inauguration?

Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] gwendolyngrace:
Just a reminder to everyone who doesn't already realize it, the formal programming proposal deadline is coming up! You have until January 30 to submit your proposals.

Think of it this way: If you could teach a class or lead a discussion about Harry Potter, what would you want to cover? And then propose it. It's easy. We could especially use workshops - practical demonstrations and classes on HP-related items. Crafting, writing, how to review, running a successful website, maintaining an archive, creating ICONS, VIDS and recording music - you name it! If you have subject-matter expertise in a topic related to HP, and you're going to Azkatraz, propose something!

Every year, people look at the schedule and find a gap in programming. "There's no ___!" they complain. Well, the reason is almost surely because Nobody Proposed It. If there's something you think should be covered, and you don't propose it (or bribe your friends to do so), there's no guarantee that the programming you want to see will be on the docket. Of course, there's no guarantee there will be room for everything, either, but we'd like to make the programming slate as diverse as possible to have something for everyone.

We'd like nothing better than to be flooded with ideas over the next two weeks, to give us tough choices. Incidentally, with this year's them: the choice between what is right and what is easy, and the application of justice in the Wizarding world, there are a LOT of characters and issues to be analyzed, so think about the theme and what it makes you want to discuss, especially with the Tales of Beedle the Bard and all the issues in Deathly Hallows.

You've got 11 days to put in your proposal!

Am working like crazy on (a) RL work, (b) New Project Beginning on Tuesday, (c) Family Trip to Disney, (d) replying to emails and (e) belated vids, but I had to pop on for a second to link to Mad Magazine's thoughts on the first 100 minutes of the Obama presidency. I personally like minute # 84.

Huh!

More here (in between the moments in which the site hosting the pics of Obama at the beach crashes), and the Borowitz report gets amusing.
