But I had to write it up for myself.
House. Senate. Statehouses. Governorships.

Oversight. A change in the cabinet.

Stem cell research in one more state. A rejection of a ban on gay marriage in one more state.

And maybe in two years it will be ten more states. Or even more.

It's a chance to fix the country and see whether we can again be a place of hope and optimism and, well, not torture.

I still believe in a place called hope.

But for now, I'm off to get ice cream to enjoy while watching The Daily Show. Last night's episode has been downloaded from iTunes and is on my ipod so I can share it - belatedly - with my grandma tomorrow.

Should I retire this icon or otherwise tweak it to commemorate today? If so, how?

I made a new icon last night. The image was gacked via Google, but I just liked it. So, have some Bill.

As much as I'd love to, we shouldn't gloat. Remember, we're the nice party. I'd retire it. It'd be like someone keeping a "Bush/Cheney '04" bumper sticker on their car past the election. (Yes, I know there are people who do that.)

Let's pat ourselves on the back, enjoy the victory for a little bit, then try to bring back the bipartisanship that is sorely lacking in Washington.

Yup - the D's are on the hook now. Time to start planning. Ruthless in battle, gracious in victory, unrelenting in effort.

Or, as they put it in Bull Durham:

"Can't I enjoy the moment?"
"The moment's over."

2008's only 2 years away. It's never too early to be ready.

Then again, kicking out the corrupt doesn't mean that you're interested in kicking all Republicans just because of who they voted for. At least, I hope it doesn't - I voted for a Republican for our state Agriculture commissioner because he was the better guy for the job. ANd I don't want anyone kicking me for it.

It's like (OMG am I about to quote RUSH?) Limbaugh said yesterday - there's no reason to "carry the water and make excuses for people who don't deserve it". I think he did because he was addicted to power, and I hope the democrats don't develop the same Issue.

But I also hope that Hewlett Packard decides that advertising on Air America isn't a Controversial thing. 'Cause it isn't.

I think Rush, Hannity, Scarborough, and all those other talking heads are addicted to feeling like victims. Calls of "liberal media!" and "obstructionists!" resonate well with their Clinton-era mindsets and those of their listeners.

And yes, there are good Republicans who don't like what's happening with their party, both in the list to starboard and in the corruption. And no one is going to kick you out for not voting Democrat. I almost voted third-party for our governor this year.

I think Pelosi and her "First 100 hours" strategy is a good one. The Dems have a mandate, to borrow a phrase. Let's hope they don't disappoint. Let's hope they show that they are the better party to run the government. I know, it's hard to get much worse, but still.

:)) Missouri is *mostly* blue - we do still have that problem of a Republican governor and Senator. ;) But it definitely is nice to get a bit of blue back into the state. Purple is probably the better color to describe it, though. :)

*cackles*

True, but we'll work on that next election. By then, Bush will have convinced the other half of the country that Republicans can't be trusted/are idiots.

Remember, we're the state that elected a dead Democrat!!

Yes, I remember that, and was actually telling that to one of my coworkers who just moved to MO from FL and they were kind of "..." at me, but it just goes to show you how fickle our state can be. Silly Missourians. *pats*

*cough*

Pat them back and tell them, that's the determination of the MO Democrats NOT to elect a Republican, especially a BAD one!

Then GW had to go and make him Attorney General *eye roll*

Yes. I have felt so choked up today. For the first time in a long time, I'm really proud of my country. *_* I forgot what it felt like.

Possibly it is rude for me to reply to this post. If it is, you'll just have to forgive me.

This happens every so often to both sides: Everyone was unhappy will Bill, republicans were elected all over the place (though admittedly not to this extent). Now everyone's unhappy with the current president, so democrats are being elected right and left. Inevitably (as long as the democrats don't choose someone absolutely intolerable as a candidate) a democrat will be elected president.

Then, if anything at all bad happens to this country during the following four-eight years, a republican will be elected after him.

It's been the same cycle for as long as I have been alive, and most of the years I've studied in school. If a president gets 8 boring years of history, when nothing at all goes wrong (no war, etc.) then, it's possible his party will win the next election.

This is why I don't get too excited about elections one way or the other. Yes, the democrats will get to make some changes, particularly if they win the presidential election as well. But unless there are NO more terrorist attacks, and nothing at all to rock the boat, it'll just swing back the other way four or eight years later.

No, no! Don't retire the icon! We still have 2008 to get through, and we're quite capable of bollocksing up before then. (Gays in the military, anyone?) Eyes on the prize.

But am v. proud of FL. Good work kicking Katherine Scary Harris's ass.

Hope is returning to me. I've found myself alternating between bursting into hysterical giggles on and off and wanting to burst into tears for the last two days.

I really had lost hope that this was still possible.

No! Keep the icon! Just change it to "Kick 'im out! Vote Democratic in '08!"
