Jan. 14th, 2003 01:00 pmGoing great. He's doing fine, I'm doing fine.
Heartbeat was about 140 (no miniultrasound today, though) and my AFP tests all came out negative, so we're great on that. My ever-changing due date is now on the 26th of May, so I'm going to start with doula-supervised natural induction methods around the 20th. No chemical induction, though - no *way*.
Have any of you who've gone through the birth experience used doulas? If so, how did that work for you?
I haven't put on any pounds this month, which worries me a little although the doctor said not to fret about it. I can't help it, I just am. Hopefully I'll put on a pound or 2 in the next month and can calm down then.
I've also been cleared for travel - we're off to LA on thursday through monday - and hopefully I'll be able to sneak to the Golden Globes... for some hobbit-stalking.
Wish me luck!

Date: 2003-01-14 10:09 am (UTC)As for the baby, good news on the health. I loved the scarf picture of him, by the way. That's adorable.
My sister-in-law just had her baby on the 31st. 6 weeks early.....and 7 pounds and very VERY healthy. We're all thinking the doctor was wrong on his due date. Ya think? :-)

Date: 2003-01-14 10:35 am (UTC)I didn't use a doula, but would have loved to. She could be a great help with relaxation, pain management and serve as an advocate for you with the hospital staff so that your husband could focus on you. Also, if you were trying for VBAC a doula would be lots of help.
With my first I labored at home a long time and it would have been nice to have someone there. (My husband went out to a business dinner, but that's another story. He was minimal help anyway. LOL.) I have a good friend who's a doula and I can't see that it would be anything but positive.
I agree about the chemical induction. That pitocin is some mean stuff.
Good Luck! Does this mean your husband will miss his reunion?

Have a wonderful trip to LA!

Date: 2003-01-14 01:28 pm (UTC)Am very glad to hear Jumper is doing well. Yay for healthy offspring!
*Sulks and wishes she could go to Golden Globes* How about kidnapping a certain Elf who's name begins with O and has the letters "r-l-a-n-d-o" following it for me?
Heh. I wonder what would happen if you brought a sign to hold over your head that reads "Heidi Tandy--beta reader for Cassandra Claire". How many people do you suppose would come running?

Date: 2003-01-14 01:11 pm (UTC)I read up on doulas a lot, and I think it's a great idea (although, admittedly, one I am not employing). I'm eager to hear how that goes.
Enjoy your Hobbit-hunting!

Date: 2003-01-15 03:58 am (UTC)Happy Birthday Heidi!
My very best wishes for happiness on your birthday and for the year ahead. It is starting off so well with this good news about your health and Jumper's. keep taking care of yourself inbetween your completely insane schedule *g*. (And PS, I agree about avoiding the chemical induction if at all possible - *speaks as veteran of nightmare 36 hour labour*).
Yay!
