Going great. He's doing fine, I'm doing fine.

Heartbeat was about 140 (no miniultrasound today, though) and my AFP tests all came out negative, so we're great on that. My ever-changing due date is now on the 26th of May, so I'm going to start with doula-supervised natural induction methods around the 20th. No chemical induction, though - no *way*.

Have any of you who've gone through the birth experience used doulas? If so, how did that work for you?

I haven't put on any pounds this month, which worries me a little although the doctor said not to fret about it. I can't help it, I just am. Hopefully I'll put on a pound or 2 in the next month and can calm down then.

I've also been cleared for travel - we're off to LA on thursday through monday - and hopefully I'll be able to sneak to the Golden Globes... for some hobbit-stalking.

Wish me luck!

No I didn't use a doula. What, btw, is a doula? You are planning on having this kid in the hospital right? I know a lot advocate at home births, more natural, happier environment, but I ran into problems that were not expected and almost lost mine and my child's life that day. So do it in a hospital!

Please grab a certain Pippin hobbit for me and smuggle him back in your suitcase. Thank you. I'll pay any fines you rack up.

As for the baby, good news on the health. I loved the scarf picture of him, by the way. That's adorable.

My sister-in-law just had her baby on the 31st. 6 weeks early.....and 7 pounds and very VERY healthy. We're all thinking the doctor was wrong on his due date. Ya think? :-)

Yay! I may have offered before, but I will again - my mom has been in the baby business for over 30 years, has a master's degree in nursing and currently runs the Mother/Baby unit at one of the largest hospitals in Chicago. She's delivered more babies than most OBs. So, any questions, you know my email. I ask her things for friends all the time. :)

Yeah for healthy babies!

I didn't use a doula, but would have loved to. She could be a great help with relaxation, pain management and serve as an advocate for you with the hospital staff so that your husband could focus on you. Also, if you were trying for VBAC a doula would be lots of help.

With my first I labored at home a long time and it would have been nice to have someone there. (My husband went out to a business dinner, but that's another story. He was minimal help anyway. LOL.) I have a good friend who's a doula and I can't see that it would be anything but positive.

I agree about the chemical induction. That pitocin is some mean stuff.

Good Luck! Does this mean your husband will miss his reunion?

Thanks for sharing the good news about Jumper. I am so glad that everything is going well. I found that eating a Dove bar once a day really helped put on the weight. That, and they were quite yummy! :)

I didn't use a doula for Emma's birth, but I have heard wonderful things about them.

Have a wonderful trip to LA!

Hugs,
Elia

I don't know anyone personally who has used a doula, but ... you know that TLC show "A Baby Story"? I used to watch that, and several women went the doula route. They *loved* them. Said the special support made a world of difference.

Glad to hear all is going well! If you make it to the GG awards, take pictures. *g*

So glad to hear things are going well for you and Jumper!

I read up on doulas a lot, and I think it's a great idea (although, admittedly, one I am not employing). I'm eager to hear how that goes.

Enjoy your Hobbit-hunting!

Ahh yes, "A Baby Story". Such a cute show.

Am very glad to hear Jumper is doing well. Yay for healthy offspring!

*Sulks and wishes she could go to Golden Globes* How about kidnapping a certain Elf who's name begins with O and has the letters "r-l-a-n-d-o" following it for me?

Heh. I wonder what would happen if you brought a sign to hold over your head that reads "Heidi Tandy--beta reader for Cassandra Claire". How many people do you suppose would come running?

*balances rudeness of wishing many happy returns of the day when it's not yet the recipient's birthday in their time zone, even though it may be in yours, against the good wishes that any such greeting may indicate*

Sounds like an excellent trip to take by way of a day-late BIRTHDAY PRESENT to me. I hope you catch your prey and that a wonderful Wednesday is the prelude for a fantastic trip away! :-)

I was told by a career placement test that I should consider being a doula. I don't know why. I'm possibly one of the most high strung individuals you could ever hope to meet at times.

But, so happy to hear that Jumper is doing great! :)

Happy Birthday Heidi!

My very best wishes for happiness on your birthday and for the year ahead. It is starting off so well with this good news about your health and Jumper's. keep taking care of yourself inbetween your completely insane schedule *g*. (And PS, I agree about avoiding the chemical induction if at all possible - *speaks as veteran of nightmare 36 hour labour*).

Yay!
