Title: The Fellowship

Fandom: Lord of the Rings

Song: "We the Fellowship" by Bob Catley

Rating: PG-13

Summary: The beginnings of the travels of the Fellowship; created as part of Sweet Charity (Spring, 2008) for [livejournal.com profile] eldritchhobbit.

( + Watch it here! )

You can download it from MegaUpload or go right to the vid here (I recommend clicking on "view in high quality" and waiting for the whole file to load).

Note: Working with [livejournal.com profile] eldreitchhobbit was a fascinating experience! She let me go off on my own in terms of the vid's structure and narative, but when I asked her which particular elements she wanted to see, she gave me a list of five or six things - and I'd already used four of them in the vid. So we were rather in synch, wheee.

In making this vid, I realised there was enough LotR material for me to do another vid in my Schoolhouse Rock parody collection - I'll be posting that later today or tomorrow, so stay tuned!

Gah, it's been a long day. I've been up since 430, drove a hella lot, bought the last gifts for my kids' teachers (between the three of them and all their classes and after-school things, we hit 28 presents) and Harry's classroom gift-exchange tomorrow, and showed my All I Want for Christmas Voldemort-ized HP vid to some RL friends who were vaguely amused, and to my son, who was hysterical over it.

So now it's the end of the day and I can't go to sleep despite the exhaustion because I ate a candy cane and some evil s'mores-style candy, so [livejournal.com profile] longtimegone and I were discussing the forthcoming Hobbit movies, and realized that among other important questions (will Andy be back as Gollum, who'll play Bilbo), there will likely be some RPS fic written about whoever does get cast, and we want to hear from you!

Let your voice be heard! Will RPF about the cast of "The Hobbit" and its sequel still fall under the fandom name of LotRiPS or will it be called something different?

Inquiring minds want to know!

I know I'm nowhere near caught up reading the plethora of reviews and comments on my flist, and I'm already seven hours from the end of the movie, which I certainly need to see again (anyone from [livejournal.com profile] hp_florida interested?) but I beyond exhausted and I needed to put my thoughts down.

Oh, have I sobbed today. Look, I know I'm a sap. I cried a pint of tears in You've Got Mail when Meg Ryan's character speaks about the Shoes books, so it's almost required that I sob in RoTK. But... )

And I can't wait for the extended edition; I've already asked for it for our anniversary next fall.

Oh, haven't I come a long way from the girl who, almost three years ago, saw the first trailer for LOTR and thought, "Rudy? And the kid from flipper? What the hell is this? Nope, no interest."

And I'm not sure I even would've seen FOTR without all the overwhelming discussion two years ago on LJ, then in playing around with the Very Secret Diaries, and hearing from those of <"http://www.livejournal.com/~heidi8/friends"> you who are longtime fans of the books. Of course, I'll make another try on them again, and will try not to get hung up by the Really Long Delay in Frodo and Sam's 'flight' from the Shire ("oh no! They're after us! Let's flee! But only after we get a good price for the olde homestead!").

Anyhow, I didn't only turn into a gibbering wreck at the film.

Tonight, Aaron and I saw Simon & Garfunkle (with the Everly Brothers) live in concert. Seeing art & paul together is something I never thought I would manage, but then again, I once thought that about Paul McCartney, and 18 months ago, I did.

And I think seven songs made me cry - the boxer, the only living boy in new york, sounds of silence (and [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge, I tried to do a phone post for you during the song but it didn't work, wah!), I am a Rock, All I Have To Do Is Dream, and, strangely enough, Mrs Robinson and Feeling Groovy. Not scarborough fair; that was Aaron, who, btw, pointed out that had he realised that I'd clutch at his arm and weep into his shoulder all day, he'd've not worn a brand new blazer (it was vaguely cold (47 degrees!) tonight.

Amazing show, and I just wish I had the time to see the film & go to their concert (in broward country) again tomorrow night.

But I'm afraid I'm old and don't have the energy to do this every night, so I'll just cherish the memories of today. And get caught up on LJ tomorrow...

Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] mahoni for the link to the If Other Authors Wrote LOTR page. I think my favorite was the Lord of the Rings, by PG Wodehouse version

"Sam, I've decided to go and overthrow the Dark Lord by tossing his jewellery into a volcano."

"Very good, sir. Should I lay out your crazy adventure garb? I presume that this will pose a delay to tea-time. I would remind your Hobbitship that your Great Aunt Lobellia Sackville-Baggins is expected for tea."

"Blast! I say, bother! How can a chap overthrow the Dark Lord? I suppose I will have to delay my campaign."

"Very good, sir. I believe you will be free in about a decade."

"I'll do it then. Make a note, Sam."

See, this is my big problem with the book. They delay! delay! delay! when it comes to set off on the Quest. It's like, Hey! they're after us! Let's sell my house! And get a reasonable price! Sneak off in the dead of night? Why bother? We're, um, small! Small enough that they won't be able to see us from way atop those big horses!
Or something like that. It's the most lackadasical quest in history. It makes Voldemort waiting the school year to portkey Harry to the graveyard look like an exercise in practicality.

Plot holes? I point and laugh at plot holes. Or I don't think about them too much, especially when they get in the way of a good story.
