Thank you so much, anonymous writer of cleverness and wonder, who wrote the adorable Legally Blonde: The Musical fic Heart of My Own for me in Yuletide this year!

It's set after the end of Legally Blonde: The Musical and it's so much better than that moviething that they did. As the summary says, "After the events of the show, Elle starts to put together the life she never knew she wanted." It's Elle/Emmett and it's perfect, with dashes of Elle's interactions with her parents, within the world, and in setting up a legal practice for herself. I adore Elle's drive and cleverness in the show (and first film) and this fic showcases exactly that.

Love, love, love. It's perfect.

Day 07: A fictional book

Not my favorite book, as that is "The Eight".

Not my first favorite book, as that is "Eloise".

Not the first book (well, series) that I discussed with the boy I later married, as that is Julian May's Galactic Milieu series (he'd only read the Pleistocene Era series - so when we eventually merged our libraries, we finally read the other half).

But the book that changed my life is Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire as it was the release of that book that brought me into the Harry Potter fandom.

Day 06: Whatever tickles your fancy: I need to have a special drink for my birthday party - something pink would be ideal, but I love things that are apple- or pear-flavoured too. I may have the Pink Fusion:
1 splash(es) Lemonade (more Lemonade drinks)
1 oz. Skyy Infusions Citrus Vodka (more Skyy Infusions Citrus Vodka drinks)
1 oz. X-Rated Fusion Liqueur (more X-Rated Fusion Liqueur drinks)
Champagne (more Champagne drinks)

But I would love it if you could share a recipe for a yummy pink drink - and if you have one, something the guys might like that compliments the Official Pink Drink.

About a month ago, the [livejournal.com profile] sylar_peter comm organized a little Countdown to Xmas project, and I had a half-done crackvid that I wanted to wrap up, and this was sort of the impetus for me to do that. I think this will be my last crack-esque Heroes vid, although I still have two Petrelli-centric vids that I may do at some random time in the future when I can bring myself to rewatch seasons three and four all the way through (or at least, all the Petrelli Bros scenes (and yes, I still include Gabriel in that count)).

So, here goes nothing:

TITLE: You Will Always Find Him In the Kitchen at Parties

SONG BY: Jona Lewie

SUMMARY: Poor Sylar! His paramour (Mohinder) ran away from home, then he met this debutante (Elle) and had no luck with her. You would always find him in the kitchen at parties... until he met Peter Petrelli. Crack. Twisted, silly crack.

SHIP/Characters: Sylar (Gabriel)/Peter, visuals of past Sylar/Maya, Sylar/Mohinder, Gabriel(Sylar)/Elle and some implied Sylar/Matt and Sylar/Brian Davis. Like I said, crack.

Rating: PG13 for moments of violence

Watch the vid here! )

Ah, Heroes, you were just made of complete crack and glee and wonderful moments and utter wtf-ness. I still kinda miss ya. Boom.

No, I didn't do NanoWriMo or even NaBloPoMo, but someone on my flist asked yesterday whether there was anything we would want to change in the HP books, now that it's all said and done. And of course, I'm sure everyone has things - big and little, world-changing and world-tweaking - that they would have done differently; I'm curious as to what y'all would have changed or expanded upon.

For me, there are tiny tweaks - to the way Hedwig died, to some aspects of Tonks' characterization, to Draco's hairline in the Epilogue - but I wouldn't want to change anything significantly. There is, however, one thing that I've always wanted, and had really weirdly hoped to see in the film even though it wasn't in the books - a soul-less Barty Crouch stuck in a corner somewhere.

So finally, I wrote the one-paragraph drop-in drabble that I would've loved to see in Deathly Hallows (and am considering trying to organize it as a Challenge in the new year):

Fandom: Harry Potter
Rating: G
Characters: Barty Crouch, Jr.
Summary: A 100-word drop-in to Deathly Hallows that would've changed nothing, but would look really good on screen.

Harry was surprised to see a blank-eyed Barty Crouch, Jr. standing like a cloak-rack off by the wall nearest the Slytherin table. There were four hats piled on his head, three cloaks on each arm and a massive bag at his feet. The Death Eaters seemed to be using him to hold their stuff while they battled Hogwarts' defenders. How many years ago had Sirius told Harry that wizards could live without a soul, but Harry had never expected to see the aftereffects of a Dementor attack in the Great Hall. Someone, Harry thought fleetingly, must be feeding him regularly.

In other news? OMGOMG NASA is having a presser on Thursday regarding a major astrobiology discovery!?!? Gawker thinks that they may be announcing a discovery of bacteria on one of Saturn's moons!!!! How soon til we get ONTD_Aliens? Internet crash and twitter failwhale in about 51 hours, clearly.

Even though I've been reminding myself for a week to switch to this icon in honour of the release of DH1 (which should have an old-school VH1-style logo) I still managed to forget yesterday.

Well, I've corrected for it now.

As I've tweeted recently, I was lucky enough to get to see Deathly Hallows at the premiere in NYC on Monday, although my review was officially embargoed until today. Crossposted from FAP and HPfGU-Movies, as I am kickin' it old school for the next few months... )

Harry Potter changed my life. It's been more than twelve years since I first read Philosopher's Stone, and Chamber of Secrets shortly thereafter. And twelve years ago this week, I learned I was pregnant with a boy we named Harry, and tomorrow he'll be going with me to the movies as a very, very belated birthday party thing.

In July, we're both going to be at LeakyCon, so we can see it surrounded by thousands of friends who we've met because of JK Rowling's words, and it won't be the end of the story for either of us. I can't wait to finally get to Leavesden Studios, or see the new additions to the Museum Exhibition again some day, and of course, there will always be cons and symposia and events and revivals of the movies and maybe someday, musical theater.

And there will always be people who are new to the story, and who then discover the fandom - and those who read the books and saw the movies, but are only just now finding the news-sites and the fics and the art and the vids and the films, musicals and fancons.

The kids who are about to have their first experience with Harry Potter as their parents take them to the Wizarding World, the random grownups like Mark (of MarkReadsHarryPotter) who didn't read it in their childhood or their teens, the kids whose parents banned the films and books because of "witchcraft" and those who simply, finally, get caught up in the hype that will lead to the last movie's release - they're all still just discovering fandom, and like the influxes of the past, they will all cause fandom to change in a million individual ways.

If you have a moment and haven't voted yet, let me know what song you think I should vid each HP film to. And if you can think of a better song that charted in the UK in 1997, please let me know!

I have no idea why, but to avoid posting un-cut spoilers for DH, I posted on LJ instead; you can read my review of DH1 here.

Dear Brilliant Yuletide Writer:

Thank you! Thank you for offering to write in one of my relatively random requested fandoms! You are awesome and wonderful and I appreciate you so much!

I don't have much to say beyond my initial requests - everything below (other than the fandoms themselves) is more of a guideline and not a rule - except, please take into consideration my squick about gratuitous violence or death involving kids. I'm perfectly happy with fic of any rating or (other than violence against kids) theme. And I just realized that three of my four requests deal with immortality, at least to some degree. I wonder if that means something...

Galactic Milieu/Exiles Saga: I read the Milieu series first, and I've read those books more than the Exiles series. In other words, I adore Marc, and I adore Jon, so of course I'd be thrilled with anything that feels like canon, especially anything with Marc as Unifex spying on or interacting with Jon. But if your comfort level is more with Exiles, as long as it's Marc-centric, it'll be perfect. I think I might possibly prefer gen, but wherever your muse takes you would be fantastic.

Legally Blonde: The Musical: Oh, it's just fun! Plus, given that it's the musical and not the film, Legally Blonde II does not exist, and you can ignore it completely! So, something about Elle and Emmet set after the show ends, or Emmett backstory (iirc he went to Stanford undergrad, which, using the musical's timeline could put him there at the same time as Chuck Bartowski, Bryce Larkin and Sam Winchester. Or not, if you're not familiar with either Chuck or SPN), or any of the students (while in school, or post-grad) volunteering for the OTW - basically, LB is my favorite musical of whimsy joy and playfulness. Plus, I love pink, and the law.

The Eight: It's my perpetual "ask". Don't feel limited by the characters I listed on the sign-up form; they are my four favorites, but they don't need to be the focus of your story. I've read The Fire and enjoyed it, but part of me would prefer something that is AU to that (or, to paraphrase a line from the Harry Potter fandom, Fire, What Fire?). In other words, I prefer Cat/Nim to Cat/Solarin, and Nim/Cat/Solarin to anything else in the modern section of the story. (But if you'd rather write Talleyrand/Napoleon, SQUEE!)

RPS: Heroes (Adrian/Milo): Well, there's this, and a million other moments caught on film and a million that never were. AU or reality-based - anything you want to do will be gorgeous. (I don't have a fictional-infidelity-squick in this case as long as there is no overt Natalie bashing.)
