[Poll #1484573]

Also, Yuletide sign-ups close soon, SHOW is on tonight and I've played three songs from last night's GLEE at least a dozen times each today.

I'm not seeing an option for "I don't really do phone posts that often and apparently neither does anyone on my flist."

That's pretty much:
You know, I never really noticed that there seem to be fewer than there used to be.

Aha! In that case, I will tick that box. The number of phone posts I seen on my flist has basically gone from few to none, so I was thinking more like, "There were never that many to begin with."

Network Solutions *still* charges that much for domains ... you can just get them cheaper everywhere else.

Who gets them there? Stupid people who registered them in 1996 and never bothered to switch them to somewhere else?

I got archive.nu back in 1998 and this was when they were charging ~$30US per year, which was 'average' back then. Now, those .NU domains are in $30 *Euros*, and dammit, I'm not letting go of my domain. For an example of what happens when there *isn't* price competition, I renewed a couple domains ten years ahead with the .COM $0.87/year renewals and the .NET $2.17/year, including a gig online file folder (multiple renewals, so multiple 'free' folders or you can divide the $2.17 between domain renewal and folder costs), via a fluke Godaddy coupon--a bunch of us were maxing the Godaddy renewals (10yrs is the maximum). :-) In the end, years of .COM/.NET renewals on two domains cost less than one year of the .NU domain.

As to AOL, d00d, I actually have an AOL username without numbers (i.e. redina). :-) I had AOL when it cost by hour (no unlimited at the time) on a 14.4-28.8 modem, thus, I was racking up $100+/month internet bills, which I was paying on my own in high school. I also remember Prodigy and CompuServe.

I've never done a phone post or listened to one someone else has done.

Also, yay for 200 icon slots now! I woudn't have noticed if you hadn't mentioned it. That 198 was bugging me, I like things in even numbers (and I know 198 is an even number, but you know what I mean). :-)

Me too. Also, Compuserve. That account was a slew of numbers that I could never remember, but I wrote into my filofax.

I sort of miss the little modem signing-on noise but when I really need to hear it I play Cannonball from The Breeders.

Something else that I will explain in a comment

I've been on LJ ... eight years now? Something like that, joined back when you needed an invite to and no one had invites to give out. In all that time, I've only seen two total phone posts, and both of those were back when the service first started. I've never done one myself.

And when unlimited dial-up via AOL cost almost twenty bucks. For 9600 baud.

Heck with that! When AOL started offering unlimited time, I was boggling and amazed and jumped on it right away! How in the world could any company offer unlimited? When long distance calls to BBSs across the country had been just a couple years ago?

I've never had the capability to make a phone post, and don't pay that much attention to whether someone else's posts come from a phone or not.
