Wow, all of this is quite scary! Particularly as I have a young niece (10 months old), and she has so many toys....don't know if they're in the mix with all the others, it's just scary to think it's possible any one of her toys could possibly have lead or whatever on them. :/
When the first Thomas recall happened, we actually got rid of all our Thomas trains and boxed up the train tracks in case it ever becomes regulated (and hence, safer) again. It's really scary.
Things from Europe are much more regulated, as are things from Israel, so we've been buying Playskool and smaller-brand stuff, as well as things with dye, not paint. From what I've been told - and I hope someone corrects me if I'm wrong - if it's dye, there can't be any lead in it because it makes it too thick to use for such purposes.
