In the fall of 1998, I had heard mention of a new book for kids out of the UK called Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. I was interested in books about the Philosopher's Stone because one of my favorite books in life was Katherine Neville's The Eight, and I had loved British boarding school stories since I was a kid reading the Mallory Towers book. So I ordered a copy from the UK and read it in the first week of November, and I fell in love. Chamber of Secrets wasn't out in the US yet, so I ordered a copy of that via amazon.co.uk and read it, too, and enjoyed some discussion of both books on the FriendsZone list, and then I found out I was pregnant and we had an "H" to use to name our eldest after Aaron's uncle Henry, so...
