01. Discuss how you got into Harry Potter

02. Your favorite book

03. What house would you be in?

Sparklypoo! Just like Pansy in my icon!

No, seriously, I keep getting sorted into Hufflepuff, but I have had my moments of braverism[/wicked], although they're mostly of the intellectual variety where I do wacky things like try to school Apple on why fair use means that an iPhone app that contains a schedule for a conference is allowed to use "elements" from Harry Potter such as character names in the summaries of sessions that are focused on things like analysis of said character's personality.

I am really wondering if the ALA would've had the same response if they created an app with a schedule in it that had titles like "The Impact of the Harry Potter series on Millennial YA Novels" because that contains an element right there. Anyhow, as you'll find out tomorrow, thanks to a few phone calls and the fact that the law is 100% on our side, there's gonna be a shiny new Infinitus App tomorrow (yes, you could find it now but the schedule times haven't been perfectly updated, so if you get it make sure you update it tomorrow or Thursday, too).

Back to houses! I'm not a Slytherin, but I love and respect my friends who are. I do love reading and knowledge, but I have major issues with formulas and maths and would probably not thrive in Ravenclaw, even if the Hat saw a bit of bibliomania in my head. I tend to throw myself into projects and work weirdly intensely at them, which feels vaguely Hufflepuffian. So even though I look really, really bad in yellow, I stand with the badgers.

Future Days )

So, tomorrow, I am getting:
1. New Crowded House album (download)
2. New Naomi Novik novel (download, purchasing a paper copy for her to sign at Infinitus)
3. New White Collar episode (viewed if I am in my hotel room by then, DL on itunes otherwise
4. Butterbeer at the WWoHP if I have time to run in
5. New iPhone/iPad Infinitus Scheduling App called the Sorting App! It is downloadable from the iTunes store now but needs an update on the scheduled times, etc. So I recommend getting it tomorrow. It's terrific.

This is what the back of my car looked like before I put my suitcase in.And the back seat is full of bags from Lush - about 500 lucky, randomly chosen Infinitus registrants will get a lovely LUSH giftie in their registration pack. LOVE the Aventura, FL LUSH for being so supportive of Harry Potter & fandom!

Heading up to Orlando in about nine hours. Should catch some sleep first... if I can!

SO excited! SQUEE! Fandomy fun!

02. Your favorite book
I love Prisoner of Azkaban with my whole soul. The expansion into the wider wizarding world, the characterizations of Remus and Sirius, the reveals regarding the complicated relationship betweeen Snape and James, the impact on Harry in how he learns about magic and his family and himself and the who.e structure of the time travel scenes solidified my heart for the series.

I ordered my copy from the UK when Amazon.co.uk was only allowed to sell one per US address. I couldn't wait for the US release because I was due with my first about a week after the UK release, and I was hoping that I wouldn't go into labor before reading the book - I feared I wouldn't have time if I didn't finish it before Harry came. Which, of course, started the bizarre trend of me having babies just before the releases of OotP and HBP.

There are parts in all the books that made me swoon and gasp and delight and adore and cry but PoA was my true marker into HP Fangirl.

heidi: (No Actual Spoilers)
I have the template in my drafts folder so I can cut & paste it into posts for the next month, even while traveling. Definitely am going to try to keep up with this:

01. Discuss how you got into Harry Potter
In the fall of 1998, I had heard mention of a new book for kids out of the UK called Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. I was interested in books about the Philosopher's Stone because one of my favorite books in life was Katherine Neville's The Eight, and I had loved British boarding school stories since I was a kid reading the Mallory Towers book. So I ordered a copy from the UK and read it in the first week of November, and I fell in love. Chamber of Secrets wasn't out in the US yet, so I ordered a copy of that via amazon.co.uk and read it, too, and enjoyed some discussion of both books on the FriendsZone list, and then I found out I was pregnant and we had an "H" to use to name our eldest after Aaron's uncle Henry, so...
