Best moneymaking scheme ever
Jun. 16th, 2005 02:34 pmDo something completely ordinary and have a tonne of people pitch an insane fit over it.
She's not stupid. Everyone involved in the purchase of her story, and everyone who watches it for something other than MST-esque purposes, however, is.
I clearly need an OMGWTF? icon, but this was, at least, a good excuse to try out that WTF? tag. Whee.
In other news, Sidekick II #2, which I borrowed from my mom as she doesn't use it when she's not traveling anyway, is also broken, but it should self-fix when the battery wears down. Wish I could open it and remove it but there lies warrenty-voiding. So, woe.
Is anyone planning on going to Spellbound in Chicago for HBP?
Also - a note on my "name" here on LJ - I've changed it from Mission: Space Cadet, which is what it's been since March of 2004, when I first went on Mission: Space at EPCOT. A four year old boy died on the ride this week, and I'm a little wibbly about it, in large part because, as of the now, nobody knows why. It sounds like he may've had a seizure, but nobody knows what precipitated it. From the moment I went on it, I was overwhelmed by the ride and the experience and the sensation, and I think I'm unexpectedly over-upset by his death. Because of that, I just don't want to see it up there for now, hence the change. I also removed a few journals from my flist - none of them had been updated in the last 90+ weeks, but if any of those people are still around, I'm happy to add you back - just let me know via comment or email.

Date: 2005-06-16 07:19 pm (UTC)It's what's wrong with traditional publishing today: It's entirely driven by brand name. Runaway Bride has a brand; therefore she makes a sale.
This is also why Madonna -- who owns the obscenities/minute record on Letterman -- is paid millions to write children's literature. Her agent's pitch was two words long: "It's Madonna."
There are, I would imagine, at least one million people in the continental US better qualified to write children's literature. None of them have brand names.

Date: 2005-06-16 07:21 pm (UTC)I can certainly understand the wibbling over the boy. Too close to home, IMO. (in more ways than one)
I had a similar experience a few years ago with another incidenct, but I won't go into it; don't want to make things worse.
Love and hugs to you and your little ones.
