Do something completely ordinary and have a tonne of people pitch an insane fit over it.

She's not stupid. Everyone involved in the purchase of her story, and everyone who watches it for something other than MST-esque purposes, however, is.

I clearly need an OMGWTF? icon, but this was, at least, a good excuse to try out that WTF? tag. Whee.

In other news, Sidekick II #2, which I borrowed from my mom as she doesn't use it when she's not traveling anyway, is also broken, but it should self-fix when the battery wears down. Wish I could open it and remove it but there lies warrenty-voiding. So, woe.

Is anyone planning on going to Spellbound in Chicago for HBP?

Also - a note on my "name" here on LJ - I've changed it from Mission: Space Cadet, which is what it's been since March of 2004, when I first went on Mission: Space at EPCOT. A four year old boy died on the ride this week, and I'm a little wibbly about it, in large part because, as of the now, nobody knows why. It sounds like he may've had a seizure, but nobody knows what precipitated it. From the moment I went on it, I was overwhelmed by the ride and the experience and the sensation, and I think I'm unexpectedly over-upset by his death. Because of that, I just don't want to see it up there for now, hence the change. I also removed a few journals from my flist - none of them had been updated in the last 90+ weeks, but if any of those people are still around, I'm happy to add you back - just let me know via comment or email.

The cynical bitch in me thinks she planned that all along.

I think she needs to take whatever profits the movie makes and repay the officials who spent tons of money with their search for her.

I'm thinking about going to Spellbound (it's only a half-hour away) but don't know anyone else who's going. Oak Park is also planning a HP festival similar to the one in Mt. Prospect.

Decisions, decisions...

Ah, so there *is* still Harry Potter day in Oak Park! I didn't realize that Spellbound was an alternate.

Interesting.

May I ask where you live? I'm in Des Plaines.

Here's the link, if you're interested.

I'm in Chicago right now, but moving out to Palatine very soon. :)

Annoying Runaway Bride is so...annoying. There. She reduces my use the English language to nothingness.

She's not stupid. Everyone involved in the purchase of her story... is.

It's what's wrong with traditional publishing today: It's entirely driven by brand name. Runaway Bride has a brand; therefore she makes a sale.

This is also why Madonna -- who owns the obscenities/minute record on Letterman -- is paid millions to write children's literature. Her agent's pitch was two words long: "It's Madonna."

There are, I would imagine, at least one million people in the continental US better qualified to write children's literature. None of them have brand names.

*hugs you*

I can certainly understand the wibbling over the boy. Too close to home, IMO. (in more ways than one)

I had a similar experience a few years ago with another incidenct, but I won't go into it; don't want to make things worse.

Love and hugs to you and your little ones.

Actually, I'm already planning to attend Spellbound. But thanks for the link!

Let me know if you decide to come - maybe we can hook up.

*waves* I hope you don't mind if I friend you. I'm always looking for HP fans in Chicago as there don't seem to be any. I live out in Hoffman Estates currently, FWIW.

I did think of you and how much you enjoyed the ride when I heard about the child's death. Whenever I hear about deaths at any of the parks I find it upsetting - perhaps that's a bit silly of me, but I have an attachment to Disney, I admit it. I don't think I'm explaining myself very well, but I guess what I'm saying is that I think I understand.

I just volunteered my services to Heidi so I should be there (though I'm not sure when). :)

I'm with you on the Mission:Space thing. It was extremely sad and I think it bothered me more than most stories of this sort since my son is almost four and we go to Disney often. We were just at Epcot a couple of weeks ago, in fact.

That's the thing. Millions of people - I think I read eight but I may be wrong - have gone on this ride and while some older people had suffered dizziness and nausea nothing like this had happened. I would gues the boy may've had an undiagnosed ailment of some sort and that's what happened here.
