What was the original working title of Chamber of Secrets?
Harry Potter and the Half Loved Prince. I quite liked that title, unfortunately the story bore no relation whatsoever to the title by the time I'd finished.

From a BBC transcript, showing a transcription error.

Corrected, it's Half-Blood Prince. And we know that it's a typo, in part because last July, a company controlled by her agents in the UK filed a trademark application for "...Half-Blood Prince", and also because there are other typos in that interview, including "Godrick Gryffindor" and "Ferenzi".

So is she reusing an old title that she really loved? Is she giving out a list of possible titles for books she's already published?

I will say that I like this title more than that Storge title; I didn't really think that passage sounded like her anyway. I will note that at least one person on my flist would've prefered the next title be Harry Potter & the Half-blood's Pillar, as a reference to Harry/Seamus ;) and I'm sure that another hundred or so would've preferred Harry Potter & the Prince's Pillar as a reference to Draco, because he's a Black and true Blacks think that being a Black makes you practically royal. Another hundred would've said that Harry Potter & the Prince's Pillar referred to Harry/Ron, as Ron and the Weasleys are clearly descendents of Elizabeth Tudor's, via her romance with Robert Dudley, and since Elizabeth was a witch, just like her mother...

Right?

Hah, I was like "Half Loved Prince?"

I would be one of those who would've loved Harry Potter and the Prince's Pillar ;)

I still say the title should just be Harry Potter and the Great and T00by Love Affair. ;)

Seriously, though, I think "Half-Blood Prince" just sounds silly. Why a prince? What is that in reference to? I'm just confused about the whole thing.

I second Harry Potter and the Great and T00by Love Affair. Though I must admit, this does sound like H/D, and that's certainly a pairing I put far behind me. But then, I *would* read it/like it/love it if JKR wrote it...

I wonder if Harry could have a Great and T00by Love Affair with Snape in canon. I don't think I'd want him to, unless they sold the book in the adult sections of the book stores. >:)

Even better, a 'sealed' R18 section in the book, like magazines!

I'm actually hoping that this isn't the new title for Book 6. I was convinced that the Pillar of Storge was a fake, but now I want this one to be just building us up to the right title...I think I'm going to be disappointed though.

Have you seen her FAQ section on the wand order in GoF? I think she must mean that James was the first to die, then Lily. But what she actually says is that James was the first to come out of the wand then Lily. Either way, that's bound to spark off a lot more confusion.

So is this a rumour, or is it confirmed this time?

Cos man, considering the revelations in the interview earlier this year about who *cough* is a half-blood...

Well. I'm sure that's not her plan but that's where MY head went.

Your head *would* go there, wouldn't it? And it could also dovetail with more disclosure about why Sirius left his family behind for his lover close personal friend...

So? You having enough plotbunnies yet?

And speaking of bunnies, is the Draco-is-obsessed fic only going to ever live on my LJ? Because I don't know what I can offer to get you to put it on TDA...

I JUST got this comment -- LJ is whacked out this morning :D If you give me the URL of the draco-is-obsessed fic, I'll copy it down and toss it up on FA, but I haven't got a copy of it (wah).

I think I like this one better than Harry Potter and the Pillar of Storge (or HP and His Flaming Pillar of Love ;) I'm going to call it Harry Potter and the Missing Preposition, since it would be only the second HP book that didn't include "OF" in the title :D

... if this was the working title of CoS, then hopefully this is in reference to Riddle.

!!

DO I SMELL RIDDLEFIC? I HOPE SO!

Words, words, words. When I first glanced at your icon, I thought it read "Consumed by Boobs." Maybe that should be the title of Book Six.

Ever since we talked about this this afternoon, I am obsessed with title musings. Did anyone essay this up when OotP was announced? Do you recall any rampant hatred for that title?

I have a need to go meta.

Not sure if there was hatred, but there was SO much speculation about what it could mean. Was it what a phoenix wanted to have for lunch? Was it a group of guys on the good side? On the bad side? Was it a section of the Ministry? Was it the Old Crowd? Were Harry's parents members? Was it something Fawkes demanded to have happen?

What, what, what????

Ooh - this lends credence to HBP being the actual title of book 6 and not just a misdirection on Rowling's part.

Is clearly a reference to Colin Creevey, who is not, in fact, the son of a milkman, but the heir to the throne, and a half-blood. *weaves conspiracy theory*

*sells story to tabloid*

Well, I liked what my spell-checker made of the previous supposed title:
Harry Potter and the Pillar of Stodge

Either it's sadly deficient in Greek, or it's gained the gift of prophecy.

Huh? Okay, when's the last time you got ANY sleep, Heidi?

I personally think it's something of a no-brainer. If she wanted to call the second book, which was our introduction to Tom Riddle, "The Half-Loved Prince" and she wants to call the sixth one something similar, "Half-Blood Prince" must refer to Tom Riddle himself (who is a half-blood and came from a very wealthy Muggle family as well as an illustrious albeit it dying-out wizarding one).

Which means, as I suspected, that the sixth book will give us more backstory about Riddle. I have other theories about how it will mirror CoS and also parallel PoA, but that's for another time.

And I thought *I* tended to ramble! Hehe.

Does anyone remember that Goblet was originally touted as HP and the Tri-wizard Tournament? I think this is a working title to get people off her case...
