Regarding the rumor about the title of Book Six:
angua9 wrote, as a con (she wrote some "pro"-bits too):
She's been using mostly common English words in her titles, and generally *not* conceptual or thematic ones. Well, except for 'Azkaban,' I guess.
So here's why I think the page is a fake:
Azkaban had been mentioned in the previous book (and, for that matter, so had Order of the Phoenix) so when she uses a "made up" word, it's only been something we've seen before. Storge, according to the quick text search I just did of OotP, did not show up in that book, and I think I would recall if it had been in GoF.
Aaron & I saw Fahrenheit 9/11 last night. There wasn't much, in terms of facts, that I didn't already know, as, per my LJ, Salon.com is my news source of choice. But the emotion, especially with the woman who lost her son, and the parallel to the woman in Iraq whose family lost homes, did blow me away. We went with a number of friends, and some of them hadn't kept up on some of the news bits, like the flights of the Saudis from the US after 9.11, and were flaberghasted about it. It was a great, active crowd, and MoveOn was right outside, leafletting - someone filmed me taking a leaflet, and for a moment, I wondered whether Ashcroft had people impersonating filmmakers now...
Even if you think Moore is a propagandist and a manipulator, you ought to see this film, just so you know what you think you should be pissed off about. I mean, remember last Spring, when there were complaints from Mel Gibson and his fans that the complaints about The Passion were coming from people who hadn't seen the film and thus shouldn't have the right to criticize it? If you ever said or thought *that*, and won't see F-9.11, but *will* criticize F-9.11, then I think you need to examine your consistency and principles. If you didn't say that then, though, well, feel free to criticize F-9.11 all you wish without any concern that you're being a hypocrite.

Date: 2004-06-26 06:19 am (UTC)I'm not sure whether I think this is the title. That said, it would be really cool if it was and if it's not, then it's a very well-thought-out hoax.
Have you read [Unknown site tag]'s entry on the matter?
Can't wait to see F-9/11. Hope it comes out across Australia, and not jsut in a few cinemas and at the film festivals.
Oh, and I caved in and got gmail. ;-)
Yours,
JK

Date: 2004-06-26 06:26 am (UTC)As for F.9-11, I won't see it because I utterly despise Michael Moore. There are very few people whose movies I'll refuse to see solely because of who's in them or made them, but he's at the top of the list. Of course, by the same token, I'm not criticizing the movie except "it's made by Michael Moore" either. ;)

Date: 2004-06-26 09:02 am (UTC)I think that the last thing she wants this time around is for people to know the real title way ahead of time. I mean, we knew book five was going to be OotP something like 2+ years before it was released, right? I expect her to wait until the absolute last minute this time to reveal the title, let alone what happens. (I doubt, for instance, that she'll be dropping tidbits about a death as she did with OotP.)
Where on earth did the "Storge" rumor start?

Date: 2004-06-26 09:41 am (UTC)That, yes, that is supposedly what JKR has written up on her website, but google-ing a random line from it doesn't find anything, whereas googleing a random line from the text section of JKR's site does get a link to JKR's site, but that could just mean google hasn't made it there yet.
Also, I'm surprised that *nobody* else has been able to find it...

Date: 2004-06-26 10:55 am (UTC)It wouldn't surprise me if that was the case. I remember seeing (pre-GoF) the UK patent office's site, and there were a lot of names taken out just to confuse everyone. I just found it again, and here are all of the trademarks taken out that haven't been used:
Harry Potter and . . .
The Alchemist's Cell
Battle for Hogwarts
Chariots of Light
Final Revelation
Great Revelation
Green Flame Torch (though she's publically debunked it)
Half-Blood Prince
Hallows of Hogwarts
Hogwarts Hallows
Hogsmeade Tomb
Mudblood Revolt
Parseltounge Trophy
Pyramids of Furmat
Quest of the Centaur
Realm of the Lion
Serpent's Revenge
Shadow of the Serpent
Some are absolutely horrid, but she obviously wants to keep us on our toes. Whoever did come of with "Pillar of Storge" did their homework, but I sort of doubt she would want a book with the initals PoS.

Date: 2004-06-26 11:11 am (UTC)I googled Lynne Milum, the writer, and came up with a few things that are HP related - just a smattering of essays.
But, interestingly, either she is also Harleen on WWN, or Harleen has engaged in a bit of plagiarism.

Date: 2004-06-26 10:51 am (UTC)And it's going to happen again. They've removed people from the voting rolls based on lists produced by some company, and there's no appeals process if you've been removed from the lists improperly, if you don't learn about it until election day, and they're allowed to pull people off it until the Friday before election day. So there's a lot of us who think that they're going to try and steal the election again.
Aaron & I had brought Harry to the polls with us that fateful morning, so he could see his parents vote for the first time - he was about 16 months old - and I'd thought it would be a neat little historical experience. And I guess it was, in a way.

I think the best part about seeing it was being with a theater full of people who were so ready to see this, so invested in it. I doubt there was a dissenter in the house last night (if there was, they were vewy vewy quiet) but it was truly wonderful to hear people cheering, laughing and crying with me over the things that have enraged me for so long.

Date: 2004-06-27 12:09 pm (UTC)It would be so nice, after the darkness and bleakness of OotP, to have a book bringing back to my mind the reasons I fell in love with the series in the first place - mainly that Harry had been so starved of love until he was eleven.
