Regarding the rumor about the title of Book Six:

[livejournal.com profile] angua9 wrote, as a con (she wrote some "pro"-bits too):

She's been using mostly common English words in her titles, and generally *not* conceptual or thematic ones. Well, except for 'Azkaban,' I guess.

So here's why I think the page is a fake:

Azkaban had been mentioned in the previous book (and, for that matter, so had Order of the Phoenix) so when she uses a "made up" word, it's only been something we've seen before. Storge, according to the quick text search I just did of OotP, did not show up in that book, and I think I would recall if it had been in GoF.

Aaron & I saw Fahrenheit 9/11 last night. There wasn't much, in terms of facts, that I didn't already know, as, per my LJ, Salon.com is my news source of choice. But the emotion, especially with the woman who lost her son, and the parallel to the woman in Iraq whose family lost homes, did blow me away. We went with a number of friends, and some of them hadn't kept up on some of the news bits, like the flights of the Saudis from the US after 9.11, and were flaberghasted about it. It was a great, active crowd, and MoveOn was right outside, leafletting - someone filmed me taking a leaflet, and for a moment, I wondered whether Ashcroft had people impersonating filmmakers now...

Even if you think Moore is a propagandist and a manipulator, you ought to see this film, just so you know what you think you should be pissed off about. I mean, remember last Spring, when there were complaints from Mel Gibson and his fans that the complaints about The Passion were coming from people who hadn't seen the film and thus shouldn't have the right to criticize it? If you ever said or thought *that*, and won't see F-9.11, but *will* criticize F-9.11, then I think you need to examine your consistency and principles. If you didn't say that then, though, well, feel free to criticize F-9.11 all you wish without any concern that you're being a hypocrite.

I think "HP and the Pillar of Storge" is a fake because it's too close to "Harry Potter and the Pillar of Love"-- and what an innuendo laden title that would be. Nice, fit for a fanfic, but not what JKR's going to use.

The concept itself has been used a great deal throughout the books, however, even if it hasn't been given the name storge.

I'm not sure whether I think this is the title. That said, it would be really cool if it was and if it's not, then it's a very well-thought-out hoax.

Have you read [Unknown site tag]'s entry on the matter?

Can't wait to see F-9/11. Hope it comes out across Australia, and not jsut in a few cinemas and at the film festivals.

Oh, and I caved in and got gmail. ;-)

Yours,

JK

"Pillars of Storge"? *shudder* Gah, what a horrid title!

As for F.9-11, I won't see it because I utterly despise Michael Moore. There are very few people whose movies I'll refuse to see solely because of who's in them or made them, but he's at the top of the list. Of course, by the same token, I'm not criticizing the movie except "it's made by Michael Moore" either. ;)

I agree completely. Everyone should see this film. It really isn't anything we didn't already know--that is, if one pays attention--but putting it all together made a big impact.

What did you think of this film in comparison with his other films?

I'd be willing to bet both that the title isn't even close to what the real one will be AND that it could have originated with JKR. SO much trouble occurred last time because people knew the title of the fifth book (such as a jillion fanfics bearing the OotP title and fics that didn't even have that title--like mine--being uploaded on Kazaa and other file-sharing sites with the OotP title slapped on them and no author info) that I could believe she'd plant a "decoy" title on the internet to confuse the issue.

I think that the last thing she wants this time around is for people to know the real title way ahead of time. I mean, we knew book five was going to be OotP something like 2+ years before it was released, right? I expect her to wait until the absolute last minute this time to reveal the title, let alone what happens. (I doubt, for instance, that she'll be dropping tidbits about a death as she did with OotP.)

Where on earth did the "Storge" rumor start?

Interestingly, if you do a Google search for Storgé (with the accent), the third result turned up is Harry Potter-related. This only serves to make me even more skeptical.

PS. I'm just going to dig out my Nimbus pics and email you some appropriate ones.

[livejournal.com profile] antbee sent an email to Leaky, and I presume to other sites as well, yesterday morning claiming that at a GeoCities page called HPStorge, someone had uploaded a videocapture from JKR's website. Here's what the email sender said her friend had said (also, identical to what Mugglenet linked to):

Erm… it is perhaps time for me to reveal
the title of Book 6! I am nearing completion of the
first draft and have definitely decided upon a
title. I had numerous possibilities in mind, but
as I wrote, I realized that only one did the book
justice.

The more clever Potter fans may recognize that
the title relates directly to both 'Order of the
Phoenix' and 'Chamber of Secrets.' I will be
highly amused if one of you can guess exactly
what's going on!

On a side note, the length of the book is
growing so fast, I could swear Filius has put an
Engorgement Charm on it; an editor's nightmare!
I promised myself not to exceed the length of
'Order of the Phoenix,' but every day that passes
makes that undertaking more difficult.
Incidentally, I have much more work ahead.

Alas, the time has come! Here is the reward for
you lot that so diligently figured out all the puzzles
on the site. If you scroll down to the bottom of
this page, I will reveal to you the title of Book 6!

...

The title of Book 6 is:
Harry Potter and the Pillar of Storgé

That, yes, that is supposedly what JKR has written up on her website, but google-ing a random line from it doesn't find anything, whereas googleing a random line from the text section of JKR's site does get a link to JKR's site, but that could just mean google hasn't made it there yet.

Also, I'm surprised that *nobody* else has been able to find it...

Just wanted to let you know that I linked to your thoughts on the movie from my [livejournal.com profile] just_kellie account, and that I'm really interested in the Florida audience reaction to the scene where none of the Senators would sign the objections.

Oh, it was just silent. But, also, it's nothing we didn't know. It was all over the papers here for weeks, even in the days when the rest of the country probably got bored with it - we lived it. We lived through the protests and the invasion by the Bushies and the fear that each of us had, that our vote may not have counted.

And it's going to happen again. They've removed people from the voting rolls based on lists produced by some company, and there's no appeals process if you've been removed from the lists improperly, if you don't learn about it until election day, and they're allowed to pull people off it until the Friday before election day. So there's a lot of us who think that they're going to try and steal the election again.

Aaron & I had brought Harry to the polls with us that fateful morning, so he could see his parents vote for the first time - he was about 16 months old - and I'd thought it would be a neat little historical experience. And I guess it was, in a way.

I'd be willing to bet both that the title isn't even close to what the real one will be AND that it could have originated with JKR.

It wouldn't surprise me if that was the case. I remember seeing (pre-GoF) the UK patent office's site, and there were a lot of names taken out just to confuse everyone. I just found it again, and here are all of the trademarks taken out that haven't been used:

Harry Potter and . . .

The Alchemist's Cell
Battle for Hogwarts
Chariots of Light
Final Revelation
Great Revelation
Green Flame Torch (though she's publically debunked it)
Half-Blood Prince
Hallows of Hogwarts
Hogwarts Hallows
Hogsmeade Tomb
Mudblood Revolt
Parseltounge Trophy
Pyramids of Furmat
Quest of the Centaur
Realm of the Lion
Serpent's Revenge
Shadow of the Serpent

Some are absolutely horrid, but she obviously wants to keep us on our toes. Whoever did come of with "Pillar of Storge" did their homework, but I sort of doubt she would want a book with the initals PoS.

You mean:
Topic: Weasleys
The Weasleys typify familial or Storgé (Greek) love for Harry. Ron is Harry’s brother and friend (both Storgé and Philia), but has not yet matured into a true agape relationship… he still makes selfish demands of Harry.

I googled Lynne Milum, the writer, and came up with a few things that are HP related - just a smattering of essays.

But, interestingly, either she is also Harleen on WWN, or Harleen has engaged in a bit of plagiarism.

Yeah, I got the potential title in an e-mail from one of the Yahoo!Groups I belong to... For some reason, it just didn't seem real. (But then again, everyone was wrong in thinking that a sister for Hermione was a ludicrous idea, so... :)) And I agree; usually, the titles are in English, and those that aren't are things made up by JKR. I think "Storge"'s actually a real word (someone said it had to do with love in Greek... hmm). Ah, well. It could be JKR's just decided to put Greek in her titles. :D

We also took Meg to vote, very young actually (I think she was not even a month old!). We've taken her to vote every time we've had an election, and I hope to continue to do so, so that she'll see it as part of what makes our country great.

(Despite election fraud worries. Maybe this year, I will let her watch while I fill out an absentee ballot. *eyeroll*)

I think the best part about seeing it was being with a theater full of people who were so ready to see this, so invested in it. I doubt there was a dissenter in the house last night (if there was, they were vewy vewy quiet) but it was truly wonderful to hear people cheering, laughing and crying with me over the things that have enraged me for so long.

"Storgé" means "familial love" in Latin, the love of one's family, and it does sound quite JKR'esque. If it's a fraud, it's a very good one, because I find the title quite believable.

It would be so nice, after the darkness and bleakness of OotP, to have a book bringing back to my mind the reasons I fell in love with the series in the first place - mainly that Harry had been so starved of love until he was eleven.

I wish we could know the title too, and that would be nice, because we'd probably see some Greek stuff in there too. But see this post: http://www.livejournal.com/users/aphoenix2007/13727.html#cutid2

It's a summary of the discussions they had on Mugglenet.
