FictionAlley's been Farked - they (read: the honchos there, not all the posters) think we're stupid, and that Harry Potter fanfic in general is, too.

Whatever.

The end result, of course, is that we've had an extra - and unexpected - server load. FARK's modis operandus seems to be to, as [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge just said to me, "Let's mock it... and crash it!" So we apologize for the slowness of FA today. Hopefully, they'll get over it.

No kidding. I saw it earlier. So, not only do we have extra load from PoA...but now this as well. *rolls eyes*

How did Harry's graduation go?

Yes, yes...how was it?

Yeah that is a pretty dumb MO. I understand think things are stupid. That is fine. But crashing a site because you think it is dumb - is just racking up bad karma.

am very amused by the 'single, 300 pound women living with cats in parents basement' comments, considering probably the majority of my Potter pals are married with children.

Let's face it... if you are on Fark, you aren't exactly high on the geek food chain. Pot. Kettle. Black.

They're discussing the hotness of Emma Watson, and we're the sick ones?

Pity you can't send fark.com a bill for wasted bandwidth.

I am very much reminded of the last time Fark mentioned Harry Potter fanfic, only back then someone said the best thing ever on the topic of Harry Potter:

yes, they [the HP books] are intended for children, but so are boobies. just because they're made for children doesn't mean they can't be fun for adults too

Commented to add - IMO - bandwidth aside, this is fairly amusing at times - I've seen two fanfic recs that actually interested me - (And if they hadn't eaten up the bandwith, I could actually find that Dobby/Gollum fic, someone said exists on FA.) and I think if we haven't a t-shirt that says "FAP" on the merchandise page, we should definitely get one as obviously there is an actual demand for it. Maybe that would make up for the wasted bandwidth.

Oh, and does anyone know if alt.wesleycrusher.die.die.die is/was an actual newsgroup?

Ah, I thought I couldn't get to the park page because of all the extra traffic from the movie. You don't have anything to apologize for though, it's hardly the fault of FA that these guys decided to target you.

I do find it ironic that they're saying that all of us are losers for sitting around at our keyboards and writing fic when all their doing is sitting around at their keyboard mocking people.

I saw a mention of the Fark on F-Wank yesterday. But, I have to say, I was just reading the las;t few fark entries and quite a number of people have piped up to defend the HP Fan fic phenom. (That's a lot of FFF sounds....)

Urg. Saw that last night.

At least I don't feel so bad about going to see PoA instead of dinging.

I say that you redirect all hits to the splash page back to the fark main page... >:D

I still don't understand how people who have never heard of fanfiction or don't realise that it exists for about a million fandoms think that fanfiction writers don't live in the real world. Where on earth have THEY been? How can you go online and not find out about fanfiction? I knew about SF fanfiction long before I ever went online, since my father-in-law is an SF writer and fanfics used to be printed out and mailed (snail mail, that is) to individuals, who would sometimes add to the stories in a round-robin fashion.

Perhaps they're also not aware that there are published writers who started out doing fanfiction. The refrain of, "Why don't they write something original?" was rather annoying. We ARE doing something original. Our plots are not stolen from anyone, and some of us are also adapting our fanfiction plots for original characters or doing other original fiction writing in addition to fanfiction.

One thing I never quite got after looking at the Fark site: is there a POINT to that thing other than giving people a place to wank?

One thing I know about the web is that as much opportunity as it offers, it provides equal opportunity for sorry losers with nothing better to do than complain. Whether it's about FA or fanfic in general or something someone said earnestly on a usenet newsgroup or some yahoo! list... if there's a way to bitch about it, someone will find a way.

Pay it no mind. It's such complete and utter rubbish. And... it's not like FA and the Quill and FFnet and all the other sites haven't been all over the news the past three or four years.

[shakes head]

Oh no. I got on the 'Awful Site' once and they crashed my little tiny site with all their mocking on-lookers. I have no clue why they just can't live and let live. And I'd be happy to live alone in my mother's basement with my cats after the disaster I came home to last night. Basement cats have to be neater.
