Someone, in the last 36 hours, did a meme where the theme was to take the first 20 or so (well, that's how many I'm using) songs on a randomized playlist and give a line from each song, so people can guess what the songs are from that.

Since I have a huge number of incredibly obscure 80s songs on my iPod, I've randomized 100 songs, but I'm only going to include one song from each artist, instead of trying to make y'all guess 10 different songs from Everything But the Girl.

So...

1.And that's good! Isn't it grand, isn't it great, isn't it swell, isn't it fun, isn't it? But nothing stays.

2. Curtains close with a kiss, God knows you can tell the end is near.

3. So don't brag how you have changed and everything's been rearranged. I thought all that was over and done, but I still get the same from each & every one.

4. I've got an aching in my heart and arson on my mind.

5. He's drinking all my beers, he's wearing all my clothes, and if he winks at me again I think I'll take him home!

6. I've been feeling so much older. Chain me, and hang me on the wall.

7. Hush my darling, don't you cry. Silent angel, forget their lies.

8. Children put away your toys, all your little children's games. Let the jazz band make some noise - step up ladies and watch out, boys.

9.Some people might get some pleasure out of hate. Me, I've enough already on my plate. People might need some tension to relax. Me, I'm too busy dodging between the facts.

10. Make it last forever - friendship never ends.

11. It's so funny to be seeing you after so long, girl. From the way you look I understand that you were not impressed.

12. I saw the decade in, waiting for the world to change in the blink of an eye.

13. Your magic doesn't need the failing spells of those that never understand, and manners, they will find no place with those that have no saving grace. With you I see the irony of anyone who has no faith. (hint: this song was the title of a chapter of Draco Sinister)

14. I quit. I give up. Nothing's good enough for anybody else, it seems.

15. ...And the way she says, 'You missed a spot over there.'

16. Do you recall about seven years ago you said that you were so tough, and I loved it, loved you for putting me down in a totally new way, down with the bad old, sad old days.

17. How is the neighbour downstairs? How is her temper this year? I turned up your TV and stomped on the floor just for fun!

18. Don't want to tango with you. I'd rather tangle with him. I think I'm gonna bash his head in and this shouldn't concern you, except that don't expect to get your bloody...

19. I belong in the service of the queen. I belong anywhere but in between.

20. Get the kids and bring a sweater. Dry is good and wind is better. Count the years, you always knew it, strike a match, go on and do it...

BONUS:
A. Tiny steps from ruthless legs; when you’ve been walking so long, don’t you rest from disharmony, from disunity, from anything that isn’t you and me?

B. Slow. Slow. Quick, quick, slow.

C. Unicorns and cannonballs, palaces and piers, trumpets, towers, and tenemets, wide oceans full of tears, flag, rags, ferry boats, scimitars and scarves - every precious dream and vision Underneath the stars.

Answers will be posted on Friday. The first person who gets all 23 gets two months paid LJ time, and the first five to get 20 will each get (GASP!) a drabble - PG-rated or less - featuring the HP ship or character of their choice - or, if you're a non-HP person, I will read any chapter of The Eight for you via phone-post. :D

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] sbbo and [livejournal.com profile] aegeus tie for the win! And if both of them can explain how they've heard of Labour of Love (and I'll note that I should've used Vera Drives instead, wah) they get my perpetual admiration.

For the rest of y ou - feel free to still take the quiz - we're still waiting on a few prizewinners for the "getting 20" count. Even if you can't answer everything, answer what you can! I'm curious as to who knows what...

And I think I'll do this again in a week or so, and see if anyone can identify "I wore my fringe like Roger McGuin's. I wore it hoping to impress..."

Back in 1996, [livejournal.com profile] laughingirl and I typed in chapters of that book for a mailing list we were on called The Friends Zone. I think I spent an hour a day, every other day, typing.

Wow, I wish I had time to do this since I know several of the answers (Bonus B is a favorite) but alas I have to go give a speech. Even though I'm an HP person, I would so throw drabbles over for the Eight, an excellent book. Did you hear that she's working on the sequel for it now?

"B" is one of the bestest songs ever, and from such an underrated film, too!

And yes! I've heard about the sequel! Am looking forward to it!

Mer! You got all the songs, at least sort of (on "A" you gave the paranthetical, not the entire title) but you got some of the artists wrong but I didn't ask for artists, so all in all I think you & Aegeus are going to tie for the win here. You both pull first prize! Wheee!

Yay!

Very cool. I've never really won a contest that required something other than random luck.

Actually, with the artists, I was kind of afraid to put them down, because people do covers, and remakes, and remixes, and I was sure that I'd have a different one than you. So, yeah.

I'm all kinds of giggly.

Do I get points for telling you now that the lyrics for Something so Strong are "Frame me" not "Chain me," and the lyric for Our Lips Are Sealed is just "angel" with no "silent"?

Of course, I may be wrong about those, but I'm fairly sure ...

I like her version - but I've never heard the original.

She did a CD called Coverage, which is all songs from the 70s and 80s - and, IIRC, she chose her favorite songs, so she probably does know who really sings it. It's not a bad CD, really.

I heard about Labour of Love on a political debate site. It was listed as one of the worst songs dealing with politics, but so were a few other songs that I liked. So, yeah, I looked it up.

Not too funny of a story, really.
