1. About 600 pepople are skating, biking and blading past my house right now, for a special weekend-o-wheels here on Miami Beach. They look like they're having such fun - and I think now that Harry's old enough, we need to start doing some bike riding on weekends. Maybe I'll get Aaron a bike for his birthday...

2. Dr Henry Jenkins, who intervewed me, [livejournal.com profile] flourish and other fandomers back in the fall, has a great article about fanfic and the educational value thereof. It's a recommended read for all of you and also for any doubting-parents/teachers/disbelievers who think you're not getting anything beneficial out of fanfic. While he focuses on college & high school students, I think the perks also go into those of us who are "in the real world", as fanfic writing, as well as the reading and discussion thereof, make an impact on one's day-to-day writing skills, which helps make this world a more literate one, too. Education doesn't stop when you get the sheepskin!

3. eta: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] folk for the PRETTEH NU ICONZ.

4. Am also now finally caught up on the past 30 hours of LJ. skip=540? WHA? I may have to cull down the number of LJs I read on an ordinary day, but there's nothing I want to give up! What do I doooooooooo?

Great article! Have printed it out for safekeeping. Will definitely be pointing others in the same direction.

I've read the article with much interest, for I (try to) write fan fiction myself. I've only discovered it recently, when I met my uni friends. This was last September. Thank you for providing it! :)

It's really great how you and some other FA moderators got to be interviewed and also placed in an article. I can't agree more with that piece of writing and am just really happy that I'm supporting one of the most popular fanfic fandoms like FA! It's all thanks to yo wonderful people ^_^!

...I have my flist filtered for 'people' and 'groups/feeds.' when i'm pressed for time, i just read 'people', and catch up on the rest when i can. perhaps that would help?

Also a suggestion, mine is broken down into each separate fandom and then real life friends (and a misc for folks that just don't fit anywhere else). And additionally, I've broken my HP fandom into general and close.

If I'm truly scraping for time, I'll just read the filters that contain folks it would kill me to miss (generally the real life, close HP, and Pirates filters). When I find I have time again, I go back and catch up on the others.

I actually wrote a short paper on how to write fan fic, for my Eng Comp class. My prof wrote on the last page, "You should use this as your thesis if you choose to go for a Master's, and teach this as a college class." *blink* Could you imagine? A college course all dedicated to fan fic! *giggle*
