I have accepted the challenge.

Wait. I'm giving birth, helping organize Nimbus - 2003 and trying to get FA to achieve 501(c)(3) status? Well, if reading OotP 50 times counts, I should be fine.

Legal etexts on palm pilot, here I come!

But, Heidi...it's only 50 books. Want me to read yours for you?

And what's the definition of "book"?

Fifty books? Is that all??

Doesn't everyone read more novels than that in a year?

Unless I can count fanfiction I would guess that I will be very hard pushed to get near to fifty books this year. Too many other things taking up too much of my time...

If it was novels, I couldn't've done it. I usually read as much nonfiction as I do fiction each year, and I usually reread about 25-30 books each year too, and I don't know if those count in something like this. I just know, though, that unless I can read things on etext, there will be a good three months this summer where I don't read one hardback at all - and perhaps 1-2 paperbacks - because you can't hold a hardback and a nursing infant at the same time.

Hence, the palm pilot *obsession* I have these days.

50 books? A book a week? My husband does a book a *day* sometimes...he reads fast.

Do rereads count, or do they have to be all new (to you) books?

As for the Palm, that's where Mr. B is doing most of his reading these days anyway. If you like fiction, I recommend getting the latest Honor Harrington novel in hardback, even if you don't like David Weber. It comes with a CD full of other novels in various formats. All of the HH novels, Eric Flint's AU 1632 (and its follow-up, 1633, I think), along with other Baen Free Library books. Mr. B's slowly going through the collection.

I'd say that this would be easy peasy, except I'm up at school right now and can't read that much because I'm too busy writing papers, doing homework, etc, and during the summer I'm so busy working earning money and having fun that I don't have as much time to read, either.

But I faith that I could do it. :D And will cheer on you too, Heidi!

Wow, you're so my new hero, Heidi! *worships* A book a week with a two-week vacation. Ambitious!

Do tell us what you're reading from time to time. I toyed with the idea of doing it for about 5 minutes. But then I realized I was already at least 3 books behind most of the people in the community. And I'm betting magazines, fan fiction and children's books do not count. ;)

love, lore

I'm in!

Though my first book is going to be "Preparing for Birth" or something like that. :)

Hey, neat idea

I joined, too.

As you know, I post my books each month, anyway. I don't actually think it will be much of a challenge, but it'll be fun to read other people's lists, anyway.

Cheers,
Peg

Has FA been contacted? I don't know how reliable the article is, but I saw it and thought I should pass it on.

We've seen it, and my sort-of-preliminary reply is here: http://www.fictionalley.org/fictionalleypark/forums/showthread.php?&threadid=23304

But since I've worked with Neil Blair before on Nimbus, and as both he and WB know what's on FA, both from the NY Times article in May and our continued relationship with them since, I truly hope that if they stumble across anything that's NC17 on FA that we just haven't spotted yet, they call me (he *has* my phone number) or email me and let us know. That's how professionals work.

Phew. Good to hear.

I'm a bit annoyed by that article nonetheless, simply because it sounds an aweful lot like instead of contacting the webmasters and webmistresses and requesting them to remove slash they are going straight for the ISPs to have them shut down.

Doesn't seem right.

-Lauren

PS- I've finally submitted a fic to FA today. I was proud of myself. Its time I got away from FFN.

Good for you! Pat, pat.

Btw - nobody, afaik, as been shut down as of yet, but who knows what that means?

Places with NC-17 are probably going to be at higher risk. Like Restricted Section and AdultFanFiction.Net.

This also explains why FFN started cleaning out NC-17 stories a month ago.

It was bound to come eventually I suppose.

I used to read 50 books before breakfast when I was young, I don't have time for that whole paper thing anymore, it's so outdated.
