Today, it's been a year since I posted chapter 10 of Surfeit of Curses.

I suck.

I've written about 25 pages - but it's barely 1/4 done. In the past year, I've written a chapter of Titanic Days for Eb's Trouble in Paradise universe, a chapter of Homage, a silly draco/harry ficlet for our Valentine's Challenge, cowritten a fic with Cassie for the AT Summer Challenge and have not finished my fanfic.

And why?

This.

I know it's a beloved site. And I just love the fact that we hit 10,000 users pretty much on the anniversary of my last chapter of SoC.

But I also hate it. I hate the fact that I don't have time to write. I swore I wouldn't get to this point - that I would finish before this year was up - and I've missed it. It isn't done and it can't be.

So I just have to go on. I have to finish it - perhaps when Simon is back and I can take 10 days off from FA, which I have never ever done. And if I do, I'll shut off LJ, turn off YM to everyone but my betas, and just write.

Of course, I'll turn on the music first.

It must be really frustrating to have started something so great, and have it get really popular to the point that you've had to put some more personal goals on hold. I, for one, would love to see more SoC. It's a great story, and I hope it's finished eventually, but more than that, I think you probably just need a break from the FA Underground.

So lots of sympathy being sent down south. I think you've earned a break.

Am sorry Heidi. You and the other mods/admins have put so much into FictionAlley. It seems to be taking its toll on you, however, more than any other. I think your ten day break will be very good for you, and I shall be waiting for more of SoC patiently :) But before you work on that, perhaps you should take a bit of time off for youself.

Hope everything works out!

*hugs again*

Good luck trying to get some time to yourself! You deserve it. Thank you so much for all the effort you put into FA. It's astonishing! I look forward to more of SoC.

You definitely deserve a break. So many of us have taken our breathers, and you haven't had *any*. I hope you will take those 10 days, and enjoy doing some writing... and maybe even some sleeping!

Yes, don't forget to turn on the music. :)

Honestly, you *deserve* the days off you *have* to take. Not just for SoC but for everything.

Good luck with the writing! *hugs*

Take some time off you more than deserve it. We'll leave the light on for ya. And don't feel bad I haven't updated TAU in a year either(bad, bad Kristin)I have two pages written. RL and writer's block are evil.

Heidi, I know how it feels to not have time to write, although I haev totally different reasons. Don't feel too down on yoruself, though; you are doing great things for the fandom. But yeah, I think you should take a little time for yourself.

Yours in fanfiction,

JK

Dear Heidi, you deserve a break *so* much, and yet I can imagine how hard it is to pick a moment and carry it out. There will never be such a thing as a "good time" to take a break, yet it is so essential for your own health. You have done so much, for so many others, and while I am quite sure you get the thanks all too rarely, you have put in a huge effort over the past year (and before that as well). We would love you to feel like being around for a long long time to come; to write, to beta, to run FA and do the million things you do. But to do them, at this level of intensity, yes, a break is needed. All the best with finding that suitable time, and then, relax and recuperate. Hugs,
Megan

You know we all loff you and would miss you if you took a break for ten days, but you should listen to yourself. I for one would love to see another chapter of SoC soon, my friend was even asking me whether there would be a new chapter soon a few days ago (why she asked me, I'm not sure).

I really admire the fact that you've managed to spend so much time and money on a site that isn't a commercial site and whose users don't pay for it. You've created the site for us, and if you think you need a break, you probably need a break. It has to be very difficult when people don't appreciate your work, (not naming any names or anything). I'm sure that FA will function for ten days without you. :) And you'll be all refreshed!

Just my opinion but is you spend so much time working on FA that you might get sick of it. Take a ten days off, write more on SoC, or even just take a break from the fandom all together. You deserve it.

As Debbie said, everyone else has, why don't you (ok perhaps that wasn't exactly what she said but close enough!). :)
