A few days ago, tropes asked me about posting on fandom_lawyers - she had some legal questions about a fandom-giving-to-charity project - and that was the first I heard of fandom_gives.

I can see the sensibility in it - instead of giving a gift via LJ, make a donation to a charity in the name of your friend. Instead of spending money for a paid or even a permanent account on LJ, if you're uncomfortable with certain decisions LJ has made, make a donation to a charity with the money you would've spent on LJ.

They've put together a list of charities around the world, and a community (fandom_gives) to keep things organized.
