I am very concerned that now that Derek is a beta (or omega? not sure) Peter may've done something to his memories and/or Cora's between the scene at the tree and when Derek and Cora left Beacon HIlls. I don't think that the show will go there, but it would be fodder for some hiatus (hills-atus?) amnesia fics.

Yeah, not sure whether Derek and Cora are betas (Peter's betas?) or omegas or what. It seems like getting them out of Beacon Hills was part of his plan. I don't know if there's a sinister motivation behind that... or maybe he just wants power, but doesn't actually want to kill his only remaining family members?

I was surprised by that, he had Derek get rid of his alpha power and heal Cora when he could have said nothing, let Cora die, and kill Derek. I think he does actually have a soft spot for family after all.

And I'm just confused about how Peter is saying he was always the alpha. Is that a bravado thing, or a true statement?

Well he didn't have the eyes, so I think he doesn't literally have the alpha power, but he a) feels like he deserves it, and b) at least perceives that he's the one pulling Derek's puppet strings. (I think "Visionary" in particular supports both of those, despite being a hot mess.)

In the final scene peter says he doesn't need to steal Scott's alpha-ness because he IS the alpha.

But we never see his eyes go red or any other color though we see his claws.

Man, I'm disappointed? Because I *liked* him not evil and part of everything, saying what I was bitching about two seconds earlier - or at least conveying my feelings via his huffs or eyerolls. :) But surprised, no.

So I sometimes have a lot to say about the patently ridiculous stuff that Jeff Davis pulls sometimes, and let's be real, there was some of that in the finale... but I just really, really enjoyed the full circleness of it all. There were a bunch of little things scattered through the episode, but especially the beginning and ending scenes of the episode just make me want to do a little happy flail dance.

Can we talk about how gorgeous the whole before-credits sequence was? Thank you Teen Wolf cinematographer, whoever you are! (I should really find out, because you rock!) It's kind of mind-blowing, really, that in the show's timeline only about nine months have elapsed, because those three have come so far. And for once JD used flashbacks in a way I did not hate!

And at the end I feel like we finally got a taste of the pack solidarity that everyone loves so much in fic but we never get to have on the show. Like hey, maybe now they are actually going to work together and maybe there's going to be nasty stuff in the future but it's okay cause they've got each other AND I'M A BIG SAP OKAY? Patty is already making fun of me (well, us) about all the Twitter flailing this morning, but whatever, I am eating this up with a frakking spoon.

That opening sequence was shocking in how beautiful and patient it was. It didn't have sloooooo moooooo or other Jeff Davis nonsense. It was allowed to be interesting and well-timed. Loved it!

I really liked Scott shutting the door in his dad's face, that cracked me up. I'm glad his dad is sticking around because I want to see more from that actor/character.

But also I want Derek back *grabby hands* I wonder if he's going to return with some helpful new knowledge or just a tan and a smile.

Overall I liked it, interesting, fun. Liked all the inclusions of past events.

SO much fic needs to come from while Stiles is in the car with Derek, everyone all scrunched all together because let's face it, no car will easily fit all eight and they don't want to be apart now because the parents have their kids, and Derek needs to do a little more explaining and the sheriff needs to do a little bit of accepting of apologies and Chris needs to glare and somewhere in there, Derek notices Stiles' headache from the accident, and takes the pain away because he has the energy back for some healing and he's relieved that he's there and safe and while he doesn't know what's going to happen next, he can at least make this little thing happen now.

TOTALLY not surprised by Peter's shenanigans.

I *was* surprised, however, by Derek leaving town. Though, I know he will be back in 3B as Jeff's already alluded to it. But I want some really long fix-it fic about Stiles going to find Derek to bring him back and help Scott's pack subdue Peter. Wherein Stiles has a fling with Cora and then realizes he is with the wrong Hale. Sexytimes ensue.

Um, but beyond that, I enjoyed this season and appreciated the way it circled back to the beginning.

I think my favorite thing about the end is that Peter has been this dangling loose end for a while now and we'll have a season where we can FINALLY deal with it OPENLY as opposed to him just snarking around unhelpfully in the background. I am all for that.

I don't know if I was surprised by Derek leaving town because now it doesn't feel like slinking away in defeat, but just being able to take a break. He's had a ROUGH couple of years and he deserves to get out of Dodge and bond with his long lost sister for a while without being pulled into shenanigans. Isaac is with Scott so really Derek isn't leaving responsibilities behind. This might be all the fic of Derek leaving (aka, Californian Werewolf in NY) being really healthy for him but honestly I have hopes that it will be.

And the other great thing about Peter being our bad guy in the next season is that it will pull Derek back, no matter what Peter tries to do, whether it's as you say (great idea!) or some other mechanism. One of the hallmarks of this season that was so stupidly absent in s2 was all that communication and teamwork, and a Derek that would respond to Lydia's banshee scream would absolutely respond to someone texting him about Peter's activities.

Oh also? Hopefully this will keep the LID on new characters for next season, though I wouldn't mind some more ladies because we're still lacking, especially now that the twins are in Scott's pack. (Are they still alphas?)

Okay, my general answer to all of this is YES!!

Yes, I want to see them openly deal with Peter. Especially if he's been slow playing it all this time. And yes, I want to see all of the pack dynamics!

Agreed that Derek really needs a break from Beacon Hills and time to heal and I really want him to come back with character growth so that he can do more than glare and spew one liners. I think Tyler has been frustrated this first half of the season (as have the fans) and so I hope that Jeff gives him some much needed development. (Good point on Derek's reaction to the banshee scream and what that means for the future!)

I am unclear about the twins -- did their near death cause them to lose their alpha spark in healing each other? That would make them betas or maybe even omegas if they don't want to declare allegiance. But even still, they were somewhat reluctant participants all along. And given the ending, it doesn't appear they would be challenging Scott for alpha status at all.

And yes, sadly, we lost some really great ladies! Allison and Lydia have had some wonderful development, but would like to see some more kick-ass females. Actually, I would love to see Mama McCall do a little MMA training so she can hold her own next time someone comes after her.

Good point on the twins, that may well have happened. Or maybe they're only alphas when they're joined? Clearly they are happy to be with Scott, but I wonder if they had to kill a whole pack or what their story was. We know how Deucalion and Ennis and Kali got in, but how did they? They're so young and cheerful.

In The Girl Who Knew Too Much, Ethan tells Scott and Stiles how they were omegas in a pack (albeit differently from how we've understood omegas to be) until Deucalion taught them how to control their "shift" and they in turn killed their whole pack, including their emissary. But I think they weren't really as bloodthirsty as the the others. They did what they had to do to keep from being killed by Deucalion (is my take). I think they are indeed glad to be free from that, though not sure why they are still pretending to be in high school, even if they did make for cute scenes.

I mean, we know the age of the actors has nothing to do with the age of the characters (e.g. I'm pretty sure Daniel Sharman is older than Tyler Hoechlin) so maybe the twins actually are supposed to be in high school? And just going to that particular high school was their assignment?
