Writer's Block: Bah Humbug Day!

SUBJECT LINES! We want them back for ALL styles! I have them because of my S2 and my choice to use the style for Comment pages but they should be available for EVERYONE.
Jeepers, LJ - did you PLAN in ADVANCE for this to be the question today or is it a crazy random happenstance?
Had you not done this, my rant would've been about whether, in ten years time, one should watch Peter Jackson's Middle Earth movies in the order in which they were released, or in chronological order. But you, LJ, were foolist, so it won't be.
C'mon LJ! Backpedal, this one last time.

Date: 2011-12-21 05:00 pm (UTC)I'm using a little weird thing called LJ-Migrate to update my backup locations. It misses some posts and will de-filter your locked posts (unless there's a filter with the same name at the destination, I think?) and make them simple f-locks. Also all your icons will revert to default unless you have the icons there too. And polls are hooped unless you've got polling ability at both locations, maybe.
This doesn't bother me too much because I'm just using DW as a backup, but if you are moving to there, it could be a while to get everything perfect. It does also generates a local backup on your hard drive, which is nice.
I don't know about any other updater programs, and this one needs some simple code-monkeying, but it can be set to delete all your source posts if you aren't careful so it's a bit nerve-wracking to set up.

Date: 2011-12-21 07:04 pm (UTC)It has a Mac and Windows version, and there are links to the tutorials on that page as well. It's a bit daunting for non-technical people like me, but once it's set up, it's just a sequence of the same three or four command line entries to get at and invoke the program and off it goes. (One thing, if your password has non alphanumeric characters, it may not be able to log you in, since those characters mean something different to the program.)
I checked and it does import the tags as well. What I like best is that it saves a local copy that includes comments and user icons so you don't need to rely on the internet to get at them.

Information on how to set up automatic crossposting from dreamwidth to other supported sites (such as Livejournal) is at http://www.dreamwidth.org/support/faqbrowse?faqid=98.
