Me too but I read it wrong and checked all of them. Now I need the correct tape or the white-out....

I actually have heard all but the percolator. My parents were early Mr Coffee adopters.

My grandmother still has a coffee percolator. We used it last Christmas when we were there. It doesn't get much use unless she has coffee drinking company. They're mostly tea drinkers down there.

I have heard all of those things. I have used most of those things. Why are you trying to make me feel so old?!? Going to take my creaky bones to my rocking chair now.

Well, I'm old too! The only one I don't remember hearing is a percolator because my parents had a Mr Coffee very early on. And in 10 years, coffee filters will be on this type of list because Kids These Days don't see them - they know the single-use thingies.

My grandmother had a coffee percolator that she loved. Probably still had it when she died in 2002.

I just wish I had my mom's old Royal typewriter. That thing was so cool.

Yup, I'm old too. I remember all of those. We saw a manual typewriter in the junk shop last week, and my daughter was fascinated. I actually remember typing school reports on one. Not even an electric one, either.

You and your daughter might like this. I know I do!

I had an electric when I was four; I got my grandfather's blue one when he passed away, so that's what I used for school things from second grade on, but we had manual ones too, at home and at work, and toy manual typewriters, too. I love the feel of them, still. Heavy, troublesome, gorgeous machines.

I took a typing class in high school on a manual typewriter. My mother had a manual at home (an old black one; but I'm not sure there was any other color available). I was in college before I ever used an electric typewriter and that was at a summer job.

I'm sure we'll have more icons to choose from soon, as people capture that trailer.

I probably will. Thinking about it, not everyone who's doing Yuletide has put their info into the spreadsheet post, and the likelihood is higher that someone's nominated Anatoly and/or Freddie, than it is that someone's nominated The Eight.

Right?

Okay, I've heard all of those except the flash cube. Does it sound like the flash on a regular film camera (like one of those where you have to wind to advance the film)?

To be fair, I have heard TV station sign-offs on television in the way they were meant to be depicted, but I've only heard them when they were not actually signing off.

Also, I've seen the weird American flag thing stations used to do after the sign off. At the time when it was supposed to be seen.

A Hunger Games watching party would be a great idea!

This trilogy has more potential for fandom obsession than any other movie that's come along in a log while, I think.

I am sadly old. I started out on dial-up, learned to type on a manual typewriter with blank keys (in grade 9, iirc), owned a camera that used flash cubes and still own a old turntable (as does my father). My grandmother still has a black rotary phone mounted on the wall in her hallway. I suppose it all comes from being born in the 50s (albeit the very late 50s). :)

I wish I still had a turntable. I gave my last one up about two years ago - mice had nested in the rarely-used speakers - but I still have a few hundred 45s. And nothing to play them on.

Been trying to think of where you can buy turntables these days. Not too many places. If you wanted one, I'd try pawn shops, garage sales or asking on your local Freecycle.

I should have made that a poll question option - there are many like you. Me, I can only remember not hearing two of them - percolators and the gas station bell. But I do remember all gas stations being full service, fwiw.

Gave myself the benefit of the doubt on cash register and film projector, otherwise the only ones I know I've heard are phone, typewriter, and dial-up modem. (And I'm really only familiar with typewriters from working period theatre. I don't think I've ever seen one in action in real life.)

What's a TV channel selector? Do you mean the knob that went click when you turned it?

But my real question is, what movie do I have to go see (that does not involve a sparkly vampire) to catch the Hunger Games trailer on the big screen?

I think, yes.

And back when the first trailer for Chamber of Secrets came out, attached to that horrible Scooby Doo movie, I went with [livejournal.com profile] cassandraclare and [livejournal.com profile] ali_wildgoose to see it at some theater in NYC, and we walked out after the trailers, and got our money back. Now, Scooby Doo mid-afternoon in NYC was pretty empty so we didn't have to wait in any sort of line to do this, whereas that vampire film will likely have a crowd, so I don't know if this is viable again. But it might be.
