If you missed the announcements this morning, there's going to be massive amounts of McGonnagal backstory, ebooks, audio books, an interactive story, about 180,000 words of new content by Jo, and more.

But it won't be live for everyone until October, although a million people will be given access on July 31 (I don't know if I'd even be able to access it that day myself; I'll be in Naples, Italy).

I am just asquee that there will be more content, even if it isn't in printed-book form. Like Andrew Sims at Mugglenet, here's hoping for an iPhone and Android app, too!

Leaving a notifying address is currently not working and I'm not pleased to see Sony product placement, but other than that it looks fantastic! How cruel to tease us like that and then make us wait for months!

Yeah, the email thing doesn't work for me either, in either Firefox or Chrome, and the page goes all screwy if you try to change the language.

I still don't quite get it. Is Pottermore therefore an expanded-universe work (series of works, really) by Rowling in electronic rather than printed form? Is it meant to have user input too? What is exactly the deal?

Yes, it's basically an expanded-works site with things for fans to find and there will be fanart-submission aspects and possibly within-strictures fanfic but that's pretty vaguely hinted at and not definite. This was, kinda like the book announcements of days of yore, an announcement about future content, with very little content-based info announced today.
