They don't know when Grease came out in 1978. Or that any mathematics would mandate that Mary was already pregnant with Dean. And even if Michael did wipe their memories, the fact remains that Mary was kickin' angel ass and fighting brilliantly while Dean was in utero, and he was a tiny little fetus spinning all over the place while she was doing so. I find that fact utterly adorable.

Speaking of Grease, I would personally like a fic where Michael replaces their memories of that night with being at the movie theater and watching Grease at least two and a half times in a row. And John finds himself mindlessly humming "Summer Nights" at some inopportune moment in the future.

Did John get the opportunity to purchase the garage because of his boss's death?

3.
If John doesn't remember the cabin, is it possible that he never sold it? If so, does it still belong to the boys? Might they someday go back there?

I've read a bunch of reactions from last night and haven't caught up this morning yet because we are having the last day of our record-setting book fair yay! I loved the episode, and thought Matt and Amy were phenomenal, which is a change from last time when I didn't adore Matt all that much. I love how much attention was paid to nuance and detail in the characters, and Sam's reactions were just....

Guh, lovely.

Not looking not looking...

Are these spoilery just for this episode or for future episodes...?

Just for this episode (and, erm, prior episodes, technically).

Did John get the opportunity to purchase the garage because of his boss's death?

Out of the various mytharc stuff, my attention zoomed in on that, especially with many folk worrying about their jobs.

I think it's more likely he was *eventually* promoted to manager of the garage, which is owned by someone else. Hypothetically, if the 'boss' was also the owner, there'd be no legal succession because of the boss's reference to letting John go. If the owner dies and there's no successor, the garage would default for sale and I don't think John had enough assets to establish a commercial loan... Hm, though, he might've tapped into a HELOC, presuming he had a mortgage at the time and was not renting a house.

At the time of Mary's pregnancy with Dean, John was worried over expenses, so he may not have reached manager level at the time, but instead, got to retain his job, now that there was one less worker.

Was there actually any threat to John's job? The phone call saying he'd lost his job was from Anna, in an attempt to get him out of the house. But I could not be remembering that this was bringing up a prior concern John had, as at that point I was all aflail over Sam crying every time he looked at Mary.

I've only seen the episode once, but his reaction would seem it's not illogical. In the end, I'd say it's too undetermined, but I don't think he acquired ownership that soon after his boss's death nor is a garage *typically* run by just two mechanics. It's not impossible for there to be two but it's 1) master mechanic/supervisor 2) apprentice/worker and a backup worker.

Assuming there wasn't any life insurance on Mary's parents, John would need a job that could support a separate place he could share with Mary... and I'll presume Mary probably got a job too and they split costs, but still, definitely not the same as staying with the parents. {g} It's possible, not certain, he may have been a new hire and was uncertain of his longterm position with the business, thus, his reaction not being an 'out of left field' kind of shock.

I was all aflail over Sam crying every time he looked at Mary.

There's that too. :-) First time Sam saw his mother in the flesh and not some ghost or hallucination.

I think he was a little too cheery with Mary before dinner to be hiding some potentially bad news at work, but yeah, he may still be junior enough that he's concerned that something could've happened - some big problem with something he fixed, or the like?

Dunno about 'bad news' but we agree he was junior enough to have concerns, if something had happened.

Another thing about 'inheriting' was the mini-storage space. My first thought was either John did some *serious* prepaying or the storage biz owed John for something, possibly a supernatural job. If that space wasn't financially secured or under obligation to keep by the business owners, the contents would've been sold/tossed, and there was some dangerous items in there, along with nostalgic, as evident by the rabbit's foot.

As to the cabin, if it wasn't in a will, the state may have claimed it by now.

Also, congrats on the book fair! :-)

Is it possible Michael cured the John's boss? After all how would John explain his being at the garage(no memory of the phone call),wouldn't he be a suspect in the boss' death..

Going back to the cabin is a possibility.Perhaps that's where Michael and Lucifer finally meet, that would be poetic. John and Mary's memories were erased, I assume Dean and Sam's memories were intact..

Why would anyone have seen John at the garage? His fingerprints would naturally be all over the place from working there, and cameras on entrances and indoors weren't as common back then as they are now. I don't know how they do end up explaining what happened to the boss if he doesn't get fixed up, but I can't guess whether Michael cared enough to do so.
