Sam says he's angry, and he doesn't know why. But he has good reasons (and bad reasons, and silly reasons and smart reasons) to be angry - but either he doesn't see them as good reasons, or rational reasons, or perhaps...

Perhaps he thinks - consciously, subconsciously, whatever - that Dean has as many reasons if not more to feel anger, to be angry - but Dean is hardly ever angry. Or if he is, he does what he said in the end of the ep and shoves it down, such that Sam must've thought for years that Dean doesn't get angry. At least not at him (possibly also, not at John).

Yes, we've seen Dean be angry in front of Sam, and even at Sam, especially with the whole separation earlier in this season, and I'm not sure exactly how that's impacted Sam's perspective on Dean. But I wonder if Sam's statement there wasn't the 18 year old who is angry at everyone around him, but doesn't see any manifestations of anger from the one person who he trusts.

Along those lines, who's seen the last two pages of the new SPN comic book?

This episode made my head hurt toward the end. I liked that Sam finally realized that his angry/rage is always too violent but I don't know how I feel about the way things ended. Ignoring the angry can only lead to bad things so I am not sure what is going to happen but I am biting my nails in anticipation.

Yes I read the last two pages. Oh John, *head shake*! I had a feeling that is how it went down.

Happy note, Dean finally said my name in an episode and I love drunk/drugged Sam. Awesome!

Is it going to be your new ringtone?

And yeah, that comic is just... I suspected something like that a long time ago, but the arguments to the contrary do hold some water but to see it on the page?

What works for Dean re anger may not be what Sam needs to do.

"Is it going to be your new ringtone?"

Whoa, trippy the minute I heard what her name was I turned to my friends and said if he says my name I can have it as my ringtone. Man were you over at our house. And yes it is going to be.

Excellent point about Dean as Sam's model for dealing with anger. Of coruse Dean's role was all about managing John's anger too. Can we blame John's bad parenting for all this? I think at least in part ;DDD

Or....

The reference to Sam suppressing the anger that he always feels is a subtextual, coded way of writing that he's been suppressing something else for all these years, in a way that would best be explained in a fic that begins, "Dean, it's not just anger. There's something else I've been trying to tamp down all these years..." and it would eventually contain the word boop and involve tweaking something else completely.

Is there a coda about that by now?

How about now?

I think you've got it! Certainly I think the boop and tweaking were Sam's way of telling Dean what he really wanted...
Dean's pudding!!!

and to be honest at this point its hardly subtext at all!
