In other words,
And I wept, and said goodbye to My Doctor.
I watched Nine while the season aired - hell, I watched Eight when the movie was first run - and I love Ecclestone so much and Rose and Jack and Mickey and that whole season, but Ten was My Doctor. Maybe because he was also My Barty (and thus also half of my OTP (Barty Crouch Jr/Regulus Black)) a few weeks before I first saw him as The Doctor, maybe because his run has been such a wonderful thing to watch. Maybe because of Rose and Martha and Donna and Jack and Mickey and Sarah Jane - and Wilf and Jackie too, because they all made him the Doctor he was.
God, was. I don't want it to be was. I don't want [him] to go. Oh, I'll watch "Rex Is Not Your Lawyer" despite law student Jerry O'Connell's replacement of Sendhil Ramamurthy and I will love it but it won't be the same.
I loved the episode. I loved the pacing - I worried when I saw how much time was left that the goodbyes would be too drawn out, but they were perfect. Rose was perfect; it was exactly right. The interplay between David and John Simm was, of course, fabulous and perfect and wonderful and I may already be mentally starting on that Doctor/Master "For Your Entertainment" vid that

The music was wonderful - is the final Ood song up yet? I love the Ood. But I still don't know whether it was the Master who was accelerating them, or something else. And can Gallifrey come back, again? Loved the follow-up on Family of Blood, as well as the Cacti and the reference back to Voyage of the Damned. Not sure about the Weeping Angel Time Lords. They do not, however, have the Phone Box.
Was slightly weirded out by Barack Obama, especially because given that the Master did kill the recent US president, it seems a little odd that the '08 election in the States would have happened as it did. Of course Jack was off-planet - had he not been, since he's from far enough into the future that he's a smidge more evolved than humans in 2010 he might not have been turned into The Master so he needed to be elsewhere. Would have liked to see Master!Gwen, though. Or Master!Lady Gaga. Those should be icons.
Also, much love for the multiple Star Wars references. Also, Queen Bess. That should totally be written as a Blackadder episode.
Off to read everyone's reactions, and possibly rewatch some of the episode. Because if I rewatch it, then David Tennant is still Ten.

*BAWWWWLLLL!!!*
Date: 2010-01-02 06:40 am (UTC)I was almost hoping that Gallifrey would return completely, because I'd like to see New Who's handling of some of the old intra-Time Lord conflicts from the old series, and it could spawn a lot of interesting new adventures with wondering what/who/when/where other issues from the Time War came leaking through the breached lock. Oh well, a girl can dream.
My big beef is actually Mickey/Martha. WTFRTDIH8U!!!! UNLESS...10 went way, way WAY into the future and Martha had been widowed/divorced from Tom Milligan. Well, maybe. It just bugged me. Too pat, too cliche.
I was holding it together pretty well, although my beloved David was making it DAMN hard at times, until the wedding scene when Wilf watches him go. Then I lost it and sniffled through the end. Hell, Wilf was just the bomb from start to finish. Love, love, love! I know they're trying to wrap up 10's stories so Matt can take over, but dammit, I want Wilf to see 11 and know that his Doctor is going to be okay! *SOB!*
Wait...what chair? I miss something?
My initial impression of Matt Smith is quite good. Looks promising - ("I'm a girl!" Hee! Love how his voice squeaked!) I almost wish Moffatt wasn't going to reprise the Weeping Angels as villains - I just don't know how he can possibly top the plotline and perfection that was "Blink." (Did you see it made MSN Hollywood's Number One episode? I endorse!) I'm downright bored with Daleks and Cybermen and I'd hate to see the Weeping Angels get worn out as villains. Sometimes once is all you need and the writers should resist the temptation to reuse.
So I am looking forward to Season 5 and Moffatt, but ye gods, I really, REALLY hope they can haul David in for a few more movie specials in the future. Preferably a few dozen.
*sniffle!*

Date: 2010-01-03 04:08 am (UTC)As I said to my husband, I got everything I could reasonably expect to want out of this - the Master wasn't painfully over the top, Gallifrey got put back in the Pandora's Box, we got plenty of goodbyes to tie up loose ends, and Ten was reluctant to the end even as he moved to save one more life. But whether it's because there'll be no new David Tennant Who episodes ever or what, I'm still feeling unhappy about it all.

Date: 2010-01-04 01:44 am (UTC)I thought the ending was a little drawn out. I would have preferred a little more story and less of that.
I took a shot at Master Gaga. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v289/rookie131/?action=view¤t=master-gaga.jpg Sorry, I had a hard time finding images that came close to matching up, so this isn't great.
