Or, as I often like to say:

\o/

First, a question re last week's episode. I've asked before but it was behind a cut so maybe it was missed? But I am very, very desperate for an icon (ideally animated) from SPN 5.03 of Dean saying, 'Dayenu!' I know Passover is still about six months away, but I believe in planning ahead.

Watched Show tonight via DVR at my parents' place because our house is currently filled with the smell of some antibacterial stuff pumped into the attic to erradicate any residue from the BATS that were FILLING our ATTIC for the last few months.

BATS. IN OUR ATTIC. But they are now all gone thanks to the Bat Erradication Company and their nifty seals, flaps and high-pitched noise combination of stuff. And hopefully when I get home tomorrow it won't smell like sporaciden anymore.

So that was the set from Watchmen, definitely. Was any of the graffiti left over from when Eddie Blake went on his "protective" rampage there? I love the meta inherent in that scene - and later on when Dean mentions explaining a clone, I found myself wishing for an SPN/Dark Angel crossover with Ben and/or Alec. (Or a fic in which Dean hooks up with a cute Jewish girl recently out of the Army who's visiting the states before heading back to her family on a kibbutz. (Also See: Leverage Crossover involving Mikal from the Two Live Crew ep))

But I have a feeling that in this fandom, things like that won't get written until after everyone has gotten the Dean/Dean and Dean'09/Castiel'14 and Dean/Sam Reunion fics out of their system.

Oh, and the Dean In Pink Panties fics. And all combinations of the above.

The movie theater marquee was playing Route 666, which, when I saw the stills for this ep last week, must mean that Chuck sold the movie rights to Supernatural. So I hope that since it was filmed in the lead-up to the apocalypse, they hired Chad Michael Murray to play Dean.

I loved how the episode was plotted and structured. I hated how Dean had changed without his Sammy, and yes it felt somewhat obvious that his reconciling with Sammy was what was going to prevent this future from happening, but in a good way.

I adored Misha's portrayal of Castiel as, erm, Misha-esque - all they had to do was call those young ladies "minions" and the circle would have been complete - and his sadness and what-the-hell attitude had such a terrific note of pathos.

And oh, Jared. Jared as Lucifer - no, there was no longer any Sam there. I'm still not sure what Lucifer said to get Sam to say yes, and it makes me so sad that Sam ever was so damaged and destroyed that he felt like it was the right thing to do, or a necessary thing to do, but Dean's simple phone call to Sam back in '09 means that it won't happen.

Because they love each other and need each other to save the world, and they are better and safer with each other, and that is the way the world needs to be.

This was really, IMO, perfectly plotted, Kripke and Team. They were apart for just the right amount of time, and came back together for just the right reasons to make it perfect.

WHEN THE HELL DID DEAN CONVERT? Seriously, first Dayenu now he's talking about kibbutzes? Did Kripke like...hire some new Jew writers or something? Also, DO NOT FORGET TO NOTIFY ME IF YOU FIND THE DAYENU ICON! Pesach is always just around the corner!

I know a few people who would be pleased to welcome him to the tribe, that's all I'm sayin'.

In a weird way, btw, I love that under President Palin the guy who thinks he's going to save the world from the devil is living in a commune. Solidarity forever! Keep the red flag flying, boys!

What if Batman was using your attic as a hideout? Now you'll never see him again.... :(

there was no longer any Sam there. I'm still not sure what Lucifer said to get Sam to say yes

That particular outcome was inevitable the moment Dean hung up on Sam. That was a hard scene to watch, knowing how much Sam needed Dean and how much Dean needed to not be leaned on for a while. But it broke Dean just as much as it did Sammy and even though it was set up such that Zachariah pulled Dean into the future to see what was going to happen with the boys split up, thinking that if Dean said yes to Michael it would fix it all, I think it was God playing another (sleight of) hand, making Zach think it was his idea, when it was really God showing Dean the consequences of his actions. And not necessarily to get him to say yes to Michael, either.

I've thought since sometime in s3 that it was all heading toward Dean and Sam having to fight each other to the death, and I still think that's what the angels have in mind, but now I'm becoming more certain that God is taking back what's His by way of the Sam and Dean, both fighting their destinies by using their free will. (How's that for some metaphysical stuff? :P Never said I was good at it. ;))

And I really adore the Dean and Castiel End Times Road Show, circa 2009.

I don't think Lucifer had to say much of anything, to get future!Sam to give in.

I think that Sam, disowned and alone, hunted by demons and hunted by other hunters, totally without friends and viewed as the Enemy by all sides ... just finally crumpled. What's the point in trying to win redemption or brownie points, when your own guys are hunting you (I can't believe there wouldn't be fall out, from those guys in the bar) and you can't trust anyone or call anyone friend? Sam couldn't even stay in touch with Bobby, without endangering him.

So, I imagine this future!Sam simply got so stretched to the breaking point, so hopeless and hunted and desperate and alone ... that he simply gave up. He simply said, "I can't fix anything. I can't even save anyone. I just want it to stop." And presto, Lucifer moves in and Sammy is long gone.

That's my thought, anyhow. I'm SO glad Zach's little plan backfired, though, and Dean regained his senses so that little plan won't happen. HAH!

Awesome episode, for all the reasons you name. SHOW!!!
