In 6th grade my teacher got permission to write a class play based on the book. She even made us audition for parts. I knew at that age that my calling in life was to be an actress, so I of course auditioned for the lead. But the teacher thought my talents were better suited for the show-stealing part of Officer Shrift. So they made me a costume that was stuffed to make me almost as big around as I was tall, and it turned out it was a much better part than playing Milo.

Then I found her some Disney sheet music for "A Whole New World" and she got permission to change the words to fit "A Phantom Toll Booth" (e.g. "Milo's seen a new world..."), and I helped her write the new lyrics.

Looking back, it was all v. fandomy in a way, only it was in an educational setting. But it was one of my favorite moments in elementary school, and I've loved the book ever since.
