There's a new casting spoiler for a late-S4 episode here and my read on it is impacted by both Rising Son (the comic book) and the newly released John Winchester's Journal.

If you think that John never slept with another woman after Mary died, you'd be wrong. It's stated specifically - if not explicitly - in both RS and the Journal that in the spring of 1991, he slept with a demon in the form of Sam's teacher, Mrs. Lyle. I believe that Rising Son #6 made it very clear that Mrs. Lyle is Lilith.

While Mrs. Lyle's body seems to be destroyed, (a) that may not be the case, and (b) obviously her demon-self-spirit escaped. Is it possible that Lilith somehow allowed herself to get pregnant by John with some sort of demon-human hybrid/merger thing? And that is what results in the 18 year old son who's going to show up in Jump The Shark? There's no discussion of any other woman in all of the Journal, and the timing for Lilith/John is very close to spot-on if you assume a standard human pregnancy, and even more perfect if you assume that demons don't carry pregnancies for more than a few weeks or months.

Wow! Do you mind if I link to this post over at another forum? It is a great theory.

Sure! Please link back to this, though, if you can. Glad you like it - I love extra-canonical things that later come into play (maybe).

Thanks I linked back here.

Your theory kind of makes me wonder if Sam and Ruby sleeping together might have more meaning than previously thought. Especially with the spoiler that Sera Gamble gave recently that Sam is soon going to find out just how much like his father he really is. I assumed she meant his drive for revenge, maybe she meant something else?

Thank you! And yes, both Sam and John have slept with "monsters" - and Sam should know about it by now as it was in the Journal, but I am not 100% sure whether the boys have read everything in the journal or not. I know that as of last March at eyecon, when I asked Jared about it, he said they hadn't read the tie-in comics that had come out - the Origins ones - because they included a lot of stuff that the boys wouldn't know - but I know Sera's been involved in the creation of at least the Journal - she was a "beta reader" - so, yeah.

Obviously I forgot to sign in with my previous post:( thanks for giving me so much to think about! I wasn't too happy when I read about the possibility of another winchester, but this makes it plausable and relevant.

I love it, and didn't even consider that. I read the comic, but not the journal yet, cause I didn't get my copy yet.

It comes up a few times in the journal, so it's been on my mind. I really, really hope this is the case, because it would feel WEIRD for John to have shagged someone else within that same year. It wouldn't fit into the extra-canonical contexts, and I know it doesn't have to, but given that Alex wrote the Journal with S4 plot-info by his side, it should at least adhere to the big things.

I was so against a third Winchester brother when it was first leaked, but I have to admit, calling the episode "Jump the Shark" is pretty damn genius. Maybe they can pull it off.

I have my wibbles about it too! But if they can pull it off - and if my theory matches to the plot they probably can - then I will send Kripke a cake.

Wow, that kid looks a lot like Jensen. I'm personally pretty excited for the ep, and was even before your spec. Now I am INTRIGUED.

That kid might have made a better Teen Dean in 4.13 (although maybe he can't mimic Jensen's physicality as well as Brock did?).

Show is SO intriguing! Even when jumping sharks!

Whoa, I thought the whole idea of a third brother was fake.... Oh, Kripke, I am not sure if I can trust you on this.

Might be. Could still be a shifter, or the Trickster or something else. But a half-demonic son would, IMHO, be better than a random human.

Didn't Kripke say in an interview awhile back that the comics are separate and what happens in them shouldn't be taken as canon in the show? *is hopeful*

I really, really, really am not interested in a third Winchester brother, not even as a joke, not even if it's well-written (which, I really don't think Kripke has the skills to pull it off - Anna is a fine example of how bad their new introductions often go).

I mean, if this IS real and this kid is somehow tied to the mytharc, the fact that Kripke & Co. couldn't come up with any other way to advance the mytharc other than pulling out the long-lost third sibling trick . . . it's already a fail in my book.

Any way I try to look at it, this is the stuff of bad fanfiction.
