The priest-costume wasn't the only shout-out to Nightmare in this episode, IMO. There was a plot twist in 4.03 that changed how I thought about the Miller family.

We learned in 4.03 that the YED didn't only make deals with girls - he also made deals with boys, to bloody their children ten years later. But he promised - at least, he promised Mary - that he would only kill if someone interrupted him.

So I think it's entirely possible that Jim Miller was the one who made the deal in 1973, not the wife who died in the nursery fire, and his descent into heavy drinking after she died was due to self-loathing that he knew he'd brought this onto his wife.

And I'm going to believe that the neighbor-kid is Andy's bio-dad until someone tells me otherwise.

Everything else I have to say about the episode has already been said:
1. I missed Sam. Loved his shirt!
2. I loved Dean's discovery of his family history
3. I don't have a problem with John not telling the boys their grandparents' names, especially once he got into hunting and learned (as I assume he did) about the Campbells being hunters.
4. TAB!
5. The Back to the Future shout-outs were lovely, as was the Impala purchase scene.
6. I have no problem with the twistiness of time travel - the timeline *never* happened without Dean because all of time is happening at once? Works for me! But then again, I grew up on Hitch-Hiker's Guide and have always loved Prisoner of Azkaban.
7. I think my mom drove that kind of Pinto. Heh.
8. Inappropriate Sexual Chemistry is Show's perennial fallback trope, isn't it? (also see, Heroes)
9. John is a total star trek geek! And I bet that he took Ickle Dean to see SW, Empire and Jedi in the summer of 1983 so Mary could rest and recuperate with Sammy back at the house and they saw Jedi at least six times that summer.
10. Do we still have any loose ends, other than the question of why everyone Mary knew is dead? YED playtime? Or something else?

If you're here for something other than SPN, enjoy a little and check out Ariana Huffington's piece from last night. She was at Fortune's Most Powerful Women Summit with Martha Stewart, Esther Dyson, Christine Heffner and Meg Whitman, among others, and her piece includes all their reactions. Heffner, it seems, thought that Palin's "drill, baby, drill" chant was sex-tinged, and frankly, I agree with her.

And don't forget!

That picture right there? IS AWESOME! Oh America, always dumbing down the political process just a little more...

Even though there was a lack of Sam *makes sad face* I still loved this episode! It was packed with information, and I thought they did a great job with the casting of the younger versions of John and Mary. During her emotional scene with Dean they did a close up of her face and I noticed that she too had those slightly down-turned eyes.

They still didn't really answer though why everybody Mary knew was being killed...

not sure if you'd been linked to this yet, but it's a great post about Palin's use of the term "joe six pack"

See, now take that into account, alongside the fact that when Castiel took Dean to the past, he had everything on his person that he'd had in the present, clothes, watch, cellphone, journal. So does that mean when Castiel took him back, Dean took back the Colt with him? DOES IT?!

I loved this ep. Period.
