I Don't Like Ike
Sep. 5th, 2008 12:19 pmLooks like we will be heading to the center of the state on Monday because it's likely that Ike is going to result in a Cat 2 at least in Dade County, and since we're replacing windows at the house, we don't feel like staying is a good idea.
So instead of writing a full Dragon*Con wrap up or griping about the drilling my building is doing right next to my office or wibbling about my son re-reading the HP books instead of paying attention in reading class (I KNOW!), I'll linkspam a bit so I can close windows:
Obama's answers to ScienceDebate on about 20 science-oriented questiosn. Nifty!
Fake Sarah Palin on twitter - and McSweeney's presents PALIN! The Musical Lalalala.
Doctor Horrible's Sing-Along Blog Soundtrack is now on iTunes (so Nathan Fillion can now have a very easy time making ringtones for his iphone using the iTunes ringtone generating feature!)
SPN Eyecon Royalty seats are on ebay - Kenny said it's unlimited autograph items, so at this point the price is a platinum ticket plus ten auction tickets, and you can apply the cost of the ticket to the sofa-seat. If you're interested in getting that many things signed...
Azkatraz registration is in public beta which means you can register but there's still the occasional random bug (we've found that people who went to Portus sometimes get a Portus graphic in their confirmation, for example). The FAQ is also live and includes explanations of the various registration levels, and the MPA - that's the Master's in Potter Administration, or our Business and Law track, which we're having on Monday. It includes breakfast Monday morning with a presentation by Susan Gunelius, author of Harry Potter: the Story of a Global Business Phenomenon, a special luncheon and a networking reception at the end of the day's program.
The CFP has been up for a few weeks, and earlier this week, we opened for programming submissions! We've had a few come in already, but we'll be accepting them all the way until the end of January.

spn_summergen onto the iphone so I have reading material For The Duration. Damned cone of doom. What're the rest of you locals planning?

Date: 2008-09-05 04:49 pm (UTC)We're watching Ike (and Josephine) closely up here in Melbourne. We've still got standing water (and sinkholes! SO MANY SINKHOLES!) and a lot of random flood debris from Fay all over the place, so the thought of another storm has a lot of people paranoid. I've got a pile of plywood sitting on my porch, incase we board up and head for Georgia.
We stayed for Jeanne. My dad held the door closed for four hours. We're never doing that again.
IKE! DO NOT WANT!
Date: 2008-09-05 04:52 pm (UTC)My house stood through Andrew - but the door's started buckling a bit in the last year and I don't trust it. And that's apart from the fact that we are not staying there until the windows have survived at least a tropical storm. I do not trust them!
Re: IKE! DO NOT WANT!
Date: 2008-09-05 06:21 pm (UTC)I wouldn't stay if you were that concerned, either! Our house is still being worked on to recover from Frances & Jeanne, so we don't want to ride out anything remotely serious in it. Scary stuff.

Date: 2008-09-05 06:53 pm (UTC)RE: EyeCon Royalty auction
Kenny said it's unlimited autograph items
I asked and got a reply back: If you've already purchased signature tickets, the amount already paid cannot be applied to the auction. Thus, considering I'm usually a major signature buyer (last EyeCon was $700-800 in signatures alone), this auction is a moot point for me. {shrug}

Date: 2008-09-05 09:14 pm (UTC)And oy, good luck riding it out. My BiL was in the navy in New Orleans when Katrina hit and they were all told to get out of town unless they were Extremely Necessary, so he rode it out in Fort Worth, and didn't stay overnight in his condo until about seven months later. Hopefully this won't be as bad as that.

Date: 2008-09-05 09:15 pm (UTC)The cone has moved across the state! And some of the models now show it going into the gulf! I would worry about Texas now...
