WB just sent the following out to the websites - it's not for the press, they told me, but it is for the fans. Just some food for thought:

Many of you have written to me to express your disappointment in our moving “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” to Summer 2009. Please be assured that we share your love for Harry Potter and would certainly never do anything to hurt any of the films. Over the past 10 years, we have nurtured and protected each film, and the integrity of the books upon which they are based, to the best of our ability. The decision to move “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” was not taken lightly, and was never intended to upset our Harry Potter fans. We know you have built this series into what it is, and we thank you for your ongoing enthusiasm and support. If I may offer a silver lining: there would have been a two-year gap between “Half-Blood Prince” and the much-anticipated first part of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” which opens in November 2010. So although we have to wait a little longer for “Half-Blood Prince,” the wait from that film until “Deathly Hallows” will be less than 18 months. I am sorry to have disappointed you now, but if you hold on a little longer, I believe it will be worth the wait.

(Hope everyone in the north and central parts of Florida is dealing with Fay easily, and did everyone know that the fabulous Rachel Maddow is going to get her own show on MSNBC as of September 1?)

I don't know if you saw it, but the HuffPo had an article that claimed that they moved the movie because they didn't want Dan doing press for it in the middle of his Equus run, for fear that all the press would want to ask him about was not HP but being naked on a Broadway stage.

OMG Rachel Maddow that is AWESOME.

Am I the only one that is finding this all completely ridiculous? Movie releases being pushed back are not an uncommon occurrence, yet people are acting like WB made a cardinal sin.

But I know, I know, it's Harry Potter...

I am unimpressed by the letter from the pres on the date changing, but I guess it doesn't really matter, I'll be going to see it no matter when it opens.

1) Why the fuck would people actually get worked up about a movie being delayed? Better delayed and good than rushed out the door and shitty.

2) Maybe it's just having been in the video game industry for too long, but holy shit. The COO of WB drops a letter like this? And people still have the gall to get upset?

In before a loooooooong session of blessing-counting.

I really think his statement feels totally insincere, but he can do what he pleases - it's his movie.

However, I must have had my dates wrong for HBP - I for some reason thought the first part was coming out Dec 09 and the second May 10. I was out by a year!

Rachel's show starts on Sep 8. I had wished that she would've replaced Gregory, but I think that, hopefully, will happen once the election is over and maybe they can ship him back to the WH briefing room. She couldn't have though as she's keeping her Air America radio show at that airs at 6 pm. (Although, she is on Gregory's show a lot at 6 pm so I'm not sure how that works)

Everything is fine here. Just a constant rain since yesterday afternoon. Not even that windy.

Not sure what the letter is supposed to do other than make the fans aware that they heard their ranting. Not sure that's a good thing. :-) They aren't changing their minds and moving it back. Like how he slipped in how it will shorten the wait between the movies. Does he know the fandom at all? Thinking that blurb will piss them off more. 'Look gang, here's the bright side. Aren't we great?' Uh, no. LOL Just say you did it for money and move on there Al.
