Yeah, not so much d0000000000m this time either. They tell us to consider it a "dress rehersal" for The Big One every time they cancel two or three days of school, government, city services, etc., and we end up with a storm that is indistinguishable to the naked eye from the sorts of storms we get three or four times a week in the summer. Yes, the keys are a mess and the gusts are heavy and tourists shouldn't be out and about there, but here on the far-east-coast of Florida, it's just another ordinary summer day.

But it was supposed to be a school day.

Ah well, we should be back on Wednesday and they do build extra days into the school year to deal with things like this.

Hope everyone on the west coast stays safe and dry and un-gusted, and everyone gets home (to Orlando and from Orlando) safely!

I still couldn't understand why schools were closed today here in Broward. Yeah, I know we will be getting rain this eve, but we had almost none today. I was supposed to start college, my daughter 8th grade, but now we both have to wait until Wednesday. And I have people emailing me, very worried and I've been telling them, going thru Andrew, Wilma, Katrina, not to mention various others, this is nothing. No, you shouldn't take it lightly, but still.

I think it's because the busses can't cope with winds over 40 miles per hour, but really, it was very clear that if we had higher winds it wasn't going to start until well after 5 or 6, giving enough time to get to and from school. And today is going to be sunny by *noon*. Ridiculous.

Here in Orlando, school started today and it's cancelled tomorrow. If I hadn't been out of gas, I would have waited. The gas stations are crazy. People are acting like Charlie or Frances is coming. We have afternoon thunderstorms with worse weather than they are predicting. O Well, I hope it passes quickly. Stay safe.

Newbies to the state don't always understand the differences between Storm and Hurricane - we have tropical storms like this all the time and just because they don't have names and come from the west or the south it's somehow Different. It's so silly.

They canceled school in Orange County, but it looks like I'll be going to work tomorrow, so no big. Sadly, just because my work doesn't deem it hardcore enough to evade doesn't mean there was any water at the Target though. :p

What amused me at Target on Sunday was that all the regular water was gone - but all the "enhanced" water was still on the shelves. You'd think that extra-hydrating gatorade would be just as useful in the day after a storm as water, right?

My husband is currently en route to a softball game with the two eldest at the 'wake' of Fay. :) I think we'll be fine. I'm more concerned with the rain this time than anything else. With a septic tank, heavy rain means, the tank oftentimes gets flooded. No fun.

Any extra batons down there? We have some hatches that need some help!

Yeah, better to be over-prepared than under. And, except that it is weaker and slower (important, I know) it is slightly reminiscent of Charley. We're ready.

It is still very quiet where I am. What is funny is we had a normal summer rain last night and it blinked out our electricity. I imagine tomorrow might be interesting!

Or not.

Here in Jacksonville nothing is going on. Everyone is all "OMG there might be a shit load of rain on Thursday!" Yeah, and I'm going to wait until at least Wednesday to worry about it. Oh the hurricane season dramaz!
