8.8.8 - and for a while it was 88 degrees!
Aug. 8th, 2008 05:48 pmYes, of course I am posting today! It's my Special Day of Special-ness! What else could I do on 8-8-8? Although, of course, as
bestweekever said, it's not as cool as 8-8-88.
August 8, 1988 was a bizarre day for me - it's the day that WSVN, where I was interning then, learned officially that as of January 1, 1989, we were no longer going to be an NBC affiliate, as we'd been for 40-ish years - NBC was buying Channel Four, and we were becoming FOX, which was then maybe two years old, as a network. I remember it so clearly because while all the actual employees of the station were at that meeting learning their Fate, I ran the assignment desk in the newsroom for about two hours, since nobody else was around. Luckily, nothing significant happened in those two hours, and the night's newscast was basically 30% about the network-switch, which had never happened in a major market before, and 30% Interesting Human Interest Stories About the Day.
So, when
laughingirl told me earlier this week that a release date for the sequel to The Eight was officially official, I decided I wanted to make a list of eight things that I could say today that wouldn't have occurred to me to say a year ago.
Given the news story of the day, though, I've edited it. So, here's my list:
1. Brian Austin Green is hot!
2. I have so much love for Neil Patrick Harris!
3. I much prefer the name Esmerenee to Reneesme!
4. Hurrah! I get to read the sequel to The Eight this fall!
5. Wow, I wish I could see Hamlet this month! Or perhaps next month!
6. Did you order your copy of Beedle the Bard yet?
7. Paris Hilton is adorable! And funny!
8. John Edwards is an utter idiot, and a jerk. FAIL, sir. Utter fail. Feh.
What's your list of eight things that you wouldn't have said a year ago? Share here, post it on your LJ - whatever works for you.

Date: 2008-08-08 10:00 pm (UTC)1) I don't care what the new job is, I'm sure I'll be happier there.
2) Maybe Cousin Pa will have a good effect on my mother.
3) Why would I be interested in three Brits yakking about cars?
4) Zippy chance Clinton loses to any of these jokers.
5) Zippy chance John McCain survives one primary.
6) Anybody who thinks Apple would release an underpowered vanity laptop for double the cost of a MacBook that does twice as much is smoking the bad grass.
7) I would look preposterous in oxblood Doc Martens.
8) And it's not like they'll ever be made in England again anyway.
(At least I was appropriately dressed for the Alarm/Fixx/English Beat gig...)
