Dude. This is JUST SO AWESOME. It's utterly delightful on a cracky level, but it totally works for me on a more meta level as well. I'm sure there are (MANY) times when Sam and Dean take each other for granted and the fact that they're in each others' pockets 24/7 blinds them to each others' good points. Until something major happens, that is! (LIKE, OH, DEAN SELLING HIS SOUL FOR SAM, SLKJLKJ!) Love this so much.

Oh, yay! Because I was actually thinking of Sam being at Stanford as a (well, an imperfect) parallel for the character in the song seeking a change in his life by going elsewhere - but I like your explanation more!
