I should know how to do this, but I don't.
I need to layer two audio tracks so they're on top of each other - is there a program that I can do this with, which has a simple learning curve?

I've never used it, but I've heard Audacity is pretty good. The site seems to be down at the moment, though.

I use Goldwave. The reason I didn't mention it first is the learning curve is a bit steep at first. Also, it's not shareware.

Yes, try Audacity. Very simple.

I've figured out how to merge two tracks but not how to edit them. At all. Like, not even how to remove the end of one of the tracks.

Oy, this isn't going to be easy.

Yay, that works! I kept hitting the "cut tool"!

ETA: except it worked once and now it isn't. Does the same action work to delete bits from in the middle of a file? Because it isn't working.

And I can't save it or export it.

SIGH.

OH I SEE! : clicks STOP instead of PAUSE.

It all makes sense. Sort of.

Managed it - once I figured out not to hit PAUSE. Lalala!

I already had audacity, and have never been able to figure out how to edit with it, only how to record. Time to have at it!

: throws hands in air - why does this have to be so tricksy?

I'm pretty decent at Audacity - what exactly do you want to do?

I've used Garage band - it's pretty easy to learn but I think it's Mac only. I've never used Audacity but I've heard it's similar.

Well, it sounds like you've the hang of it...Audacity is a great little program.

I'm rather handy at this sort of thing...if I can be of any assistance, please let me know.

Cheers!
