Follow-up to my post-show thinky-thoughts,
She knew the plan, and she could have told all the demons and screwed up the plan's chances for working, but she didn't.
And can a demon posessing a human who's deaf be impacted by an exorcism? What about one wearing headphones or earplugs? Is being in the presence of those powerful words enough, or does the demon have to physically "hear" it?
The Weather Channel just reported on a salt shortage - states like New Jersey are paying up to 75% more for their road salt - because so much has been needed this year.
Is it because of snowstorms, or are hunters stocking up for demon season?

Sounds are just vibrations -- deaf people like to dance when the vibrations are right. So if we're talking about the vibrational frequency of the words of the exorcism, then yeah, I think a demon in a deaf person could "hear" the words and be exorcised.

Date: 2008-02-23 12:50 am (UTC)Well, a few things, and it may all be totally circumstantial. But belief doesn't really answer to reason, only to canon. So until Kripke disabuses me of it, this is what I believe.
Firstly, from AHBL1, where Mary knows the YED when she sees him in Sam's nursery. This hasn't been fully explained.
In "Home", when Mary sacrifices herself to drive out the poltergeist, she goes up in flames. From what I can tell, only those who are going to Hell go up in flames. When John fought his way out of Hell, he went into the light, and the same happened with Molly at the end of "Roadkill". So Mary's obviously in Hell, but why and who is she?
The way Ruby acts with the boys is one, to me, of some sort of elder's exasperation with those who are growing up too slowly. I think her interest in making sure Sam is ready for life without Dean is more than self-interest.
Plus, she's a blonde, just like Mary.
That's my explication, and it is totally open to other interpretation, but I like having this viewpoint! ;->
