heidi: (Fairy Tale)

TV movies were regularly scheduled on network television - sometimes they were two hour films and sometimes they were mini-serieses of six and eight hours. Which, come to think of it, isn't far afield from the average British tv season these days, but that's not the point of this post.

The point of this post is that for the last thirty years, I've had three betamax tapes safely in a closet, or a drawer. I've never converted them, and I've been terrified for the last 15 years or so that they're just in such bad condition that playing them will destroy them, so as long as I have them, unplayed and safe, at least I have them.

Never thought either of them would come out on DVD.

But?

Earlier this year, The New Adventures of Heidi, where she meets a little girl named Elizabeth (which, coincidentally, is my sister's name) and they go to Manhattan for Christmas was released - and I didn't know about it, but I do now!

The weird thing is, I found it because clearly, Amazon knows me. I went looking to see if the 1970s version of Little Women - the one with Greer Garson, Meredith Baxter Birney, Susan Dey, Eve Plum and William Shatner - was out, and yes, it also is! It came out last month, and it, along with the Heidi dvd, is en route to me!

And thanks to AOL, you can see a bit of Little Women

Ah, 70s tv movies! Don't ever change!

Now, LJ's been intermittently weird forever, and I was told that some people didn't see that I'd posted a Supernatural vid on Friday set to The Divinyls' Pleasure & Pain, so here it is,

I've found some *really* weird stuff on DVD from time to time. The original pilot of "Forever Knight" with Rick Springfield (called "Nick Knight" at the time) on DVD, along with a wonderful TV movie called "Skokie" about Neo Nazis suing for the right to stage a "demonstration" in a predominantly Jewish area.

Some of these I've found in $5 bins in places like (when I still shopped there) Wal-Mart or K-Mart.

I've also discovered, through checking the message boards on IMDB or ebay, others with pretty good copies of old movies on DVD. An old TV show I really liked called "Otherworld" is available through one such place - the seller is including "extras" like cast interviews which I suspect are from electronic press kits, etc.

The information age has been very kind to those of us with TV nostalgia. Although I'm still trying to find a late night TV movie called "K is for Killing" on NTSC format. It's available via Amazon UK currently, but I don't have a DVD player that plays all regions currently.

I knew where I could get an illegal DL of Little Women, but it's so long, and it was a 3rd or 4th gen copy so I didn't even try. Now, to get a reasonably good dvd?

It's wonderful!

And here I knew you'd posted it and didn't leave feedback yet. :(

Anyway, I love your vid. So fast-paced and so much of the boys being thumped on! Hee. Poor things. :D

Also, ahahah omg I guess there's a reason I've never heard of/seen this 70's version of Little Women. I'm boggling at the sets, omg. SO AWESOME. SO BAD. But really; any incarnation of Little Women really makes me happy, I must see it one day!

And I love that iFilm/AOL/Spike has said that if I liked that clip of Little Women, I might wanna watch Girls on the Mat - women wrestling. Uh....huh. O.o

I not only do not fear penguins, I adore them. The only animals nearly as cute as penguins are pandas and polar bears. Yesterday I found PEEWEE'S BIG ADVENTURE for $3.99 in the "used DVD bin" at my supermarket. I think that was a steal :D

I went and watched the imeem version because it's bigger, but I did like! Lots of whumpage.

It is a tiny bit uneven because it still has that "crack" element at the very beginning, but yeah, it ultimately turns serious... What is it about these boys and the angst?
