I can't check - my DVR didn't record it. But if that's true, that's just reprehensible, and goes a long way to explaining why the reviewer from TV Guide thought Simm's performance in this ep wasn't as dynamic as he was in the previous episode.

If you saw the ep on SciFi yesterday,

There's also an adorable fanvid using the same song here.

You are completely right. It was not in the episode. Imagine my disappointment since I love that song (and scene).

WTF? Why would they cut it?

Galactic stupidity?

I think it may've been a little too long for their Glut of Commercials and they had to remove Really Good Content to fit it in. Or something asinine like that.

Atrocious. I can only hope that the DVD release won't have any of the content deleted.

They did, the bastards. I remember thinking to myself, "That really great song is in this ep" and then it didn't happen. I hate SciFi. Glad we got BBCAmerica. They don't even beep out the 'shits' in Torchwood.

The original version of the episode that shown on the BBC was about ten minutes longer than normal. I read somewhere that they cut it back to the normal length in the version that was sold to other countries, so a bunch of things got cut, including that sequence with "I Can't Decide".

But they could have given it a 90 minute timeslot for this ep if they'd realy cared about the viewers. Which they don't. Gits.

When it airs on BBC America, you will see the same edits, unfortunately.

Russell T Davies talked about cutting the song scene for the "international edit" in the commentary podcast. The ep actually runs 51 minutes and they have to cut it down to 42 to sell it here and other places.

Alas!

They couldn't have, because Sci Fi (and others) buy the international edit, which comes cut down to the proper length.

They also cut something else, I think - didn't Martha's mother pick up the gun and threaten the Master with it before Lucy got hold of it? I can't remember if I'm just imagining that or not, but if it happened SciFi cut it out of their airing last night.

Yes, she did... and I believe the Doctor convinced her that the Master wasn't worth it. Then Lucy grabbed the gun.

I saw this a few months ago (?) and loved the scene "I Can't Decide". (The Master is supposed to be equal parts menacing and campy, in my opinion.) Because, really it sums up the whole Master/Doctor relationship... As the only two known survivors of Gallifrey's destruction, there is an odd bond between them. If the Master kills the Doctor, he no longer has the Holmes to his Moriarty.

They've pretty much been butchering the eps all season. But last night was by far the worst. I knew they were going to cut a lot because the ep was "too long" and as pointed out eariler Davis said in the podcast that the song bit was going to be cut for the international viewers. But even expecting not to see it I was surprised by how much it changed the tone of the show and the Master. Between that and the other cuts it was not the same ep that aired on BBC. Too bad..... Oh well DVDs will be out soon and until there I have my iPod I can alwasy watch the right one :)

Oh, for fuck's sake.

I can't believe they cut that scene.

Wait, I guess I can.

Thank goodness for my BBC eps. ;)

There also might have been an issue with licensing issues with the music as well. It was very sad to lose though.

It's okay. We'll have the DVDs in a month!

Last week they cut out the "You too?" exchange between Jack and Martha (re: unrequited love with the Doctor) and I was seriously disappointed in them then as well.

OMG, I can't beleive SciFi (or whoever) cut that part out! The clip explains so much, and the song just *rocks*.

I have a question, though - the recording of "I Can't Decide" used in the Dr Who clip sounds just the slightest but different to me from the album version I went out and bought. Am I crazy, or is did they record a version of it just for the ep? The track from the ep sounds just a little more...manic...than the album track, and I'd LOVE to have a copy of it if anyone knew where to find it (I couldn't locate a different version, but that doesn't mean it's not out there).

:)

John Simm is very nearly worth the entire rest of the 3rd season. God knows they could have done a season-long arc with him as villain and been great, but I guess now I just have to wait for Kylie and then...well, we all know who's next...

Oh man, I'm glad I watched the original version of this - that's a great scene to cut. I mean, I can see WHY they did, in terms of moving the plot along, but I still think it was a great scene.

That is the greatest thing ever. My son and I have been watching it over and over, and then I had to go and download the song too.

Thanks so much for sharing this; if you hadn't I never would have known about it.
