wendywoowho and I were just discussing whether Xanadu is more of a beer movie or a pina colada film, and whether Grease II is more beer-friendly, and I opined that The Pirate Movie calls out for rum-based drinks (and PotC probably does too).
What alcoholic beverages match best with your favorite films?
ETA: This bit from circa 1976 Sesame Street made me very happy tonight.
The last time I saw Grease 2 I went into a bit of a meltdown trying to make sense of the plot, so I'm not allowed to watch that one anymore.
I would definitely say Pina Coladas for Xanadu. Makes we want both right now.
I'm trying to think of what one would watch with the Grease-2 Level "Stayin' Alive." I would say 7 & 7 because that was Tony Manero's drink, but his character's so OOC in SA he probably would have switched to wine coolers or something.
Maybe vanilla cokes and pitchers of beer for Grease II? (The beer only during "Score Tonight," of course...) (ooo, maybe rum drinks during the tiki party?)
The first thing that comes to mind, since I've been reading so much cyberpunk lately, is that you'd want some vodka right out of the freezer to watch "Blade Runner". Either that or a Japanese beer like Sapporo or Tsing Tao.
Thanks! I can't take credit - it's by samiamicons - but I love it, too. When I had to cut back to 6 icons (from 51) after my paid account ran out, I had to keep it. :D
With Xanadu, I would go for something light and fru-fru-y, like a Zima or a Mike's Hard *ade. I know they were created after 1980, but I think something light and fruity would go with that movie. Not that you asked. Wait, you did...
I like Wargames, and that's an obvious one: Mountain Dew Fletch calls for a light beer. Fletch Lives for mint juleps. For Family Guy (not a movie, but something I enjoy watching), Sam Adams.
Lifesaver Martini for Xanadu Definitely a Bahama Mama for The Pirate Movie And I have to side with senor coconut... Max is of the gay, so a Cosmopolitan.
I'd toss back a few Welsh Dragons for the Torchwood series, though. And for Heroes... you'll have to read my drabble. (to be posted)
I'm not sure how officially accurate it is, but the combination they use at the Rose & Crown Pub at Epcot calls for peach Schnapps, Melon liqueur, Creme de menthe, orange juice, and pineapple juice. And since that's the only place I've ever had it...
At Walt Disney World, you can order a Welsh Dragon at the UK pavilion. However, it is fairly simple to make at home. The key is proportion. You start with equal parts orange juice and pineapple juice, about 3 oz each. Gently combine 1/2 oz of each: Creme De Menthe liquer, Midori (melon liquer) and Peach Schnapps. Swirl together until the concoction is a nice minty green and serve over ice. On a hot day, the citrus and mint are very refreshing, and keep the melon from overpowering the drink.
Casablanca demands bourbon. Straight. I mean, sure, you could knock down Countreau straight or champagne cocktails or French 75s at the appropriate moment, but let's face it, it cries out for straight rotgut.
Hot Fuzz wants pint after pint of Newcastle Brown Ale. For that matter, so does V for Vendetta. Hm...
Oh, see, I was drinking Guinness during Hot Fuzz, but you're right, the Newcastle would have been much better. What about Shaun of the Dead? Something on tap at the Winchester...
Sex on the beach for A New Hope (for Tatooine). White Russians for the Empire Strikes Back (for Hoth). Grasshoppers for Return of the Jedi (for Yoda!).
Rum and cokes for those pirate movies.
Whisky for Braveheart and Rob Roy
Scotch for Highlander.
Mead (if you can get it) for Kingdom of Heaven, King Arthur, etc.
Wine and vicodins for The Passion of the Christ.
Strawberry Daiquiries for Kaylee when watching Firefly. Otherwise, something chinese.
ούζο (Ouzo) for My Big Fat Greek Weddint (the trick is to see if you can keep up with the guests!). OR something made with HIPNOTIQ or blue curaçao (for the windex!).
Irish whisky for The Boondock Saints. Or perhaps Bloody Orange Screwdrivers (in honour of the beaten up/killed Russian mob folks).
I could go on and on, but I think that's a good start. :D

FWIW, on my 22nd birthday (in college), I drank a 2L bottle of Sun Country wine cooler. It cost me $2.

Hey, I could be a B&J spokesmodel now! I totally forgot about Sun Country. I was a B&J girl myself.
Okay, now that just sounded bad...
