What are you doing next July, Potter-wise?

Wanted to make sure everyone saw that registration prices for Portus 2008 go up at 12:00AM EST on September 1, 2007. (That means the current price is valid up to 11:59 PM EST on August 31st. Although I wouldn't recommend waiting to the literal last minute...)

It's going to be an amazing event - terrific presenters, Quidditch, a fan-creativity swap-and-sale meet (signup info for that should be coming out next month), lots of wizard rock, a wide range of podcasting events, and more! Gah. I'm determined to be at Portus (yay, Texas!), but just can't afford to register at the moment. If only the price went up a month later, I'd be cool. Ah well. Such is life.

You really should work up a presentation on Draco - there's a discount for presenters even if you register after Sept 1 - I saw it mentioned in the FAQ...

I really, REALLY want to go but 1) it's in Texas and I'm in PA 2) I'm poor 3) I also have a two week vacation the last weekend of July, so job-ness might not be too terribly happy about that.

We'll see. if I can get time off and the money, I might come down. I mean, I really would love to present something- my mood has just been lifted by the thought of the research. ^_^ If I can't make it. . . I dunno. I will work on something and if I can get the money in time for the presenter deadline, I'll register for that, if not, I might hand it over to someone else to present. ^_^

I think that there's a discount for accepted presenters - it's $180 even if you register later than Sept. 1, mentioned in the FAQ. So hopefully that'll work out for you!

I have relatives a few hours from Dallas - I always swore I would never go back to Texas in the summer time but I can't help but think that this would be a good chance to go to a fun HP even and then go to see my relatives.

But I can't afford to register yet ... But I am going to try and go. :)

Portus does sound really good. I don't think that I'm going to make that though since I really want to put all my efforts(and by efforts I mean what little funds I have) into going to Accio in London next year. I really want to try to make that one since I was all set to go to Sectus this year but to circumstances beyond my control I didn't get to go. Still sort of heartbroken about that. But if something changes I'll be at Portus in a heartbeat. Anything Potter realted and I'm in.

You know, I've heard that there will be an Accio in 08 but I haven't seen any mention of what's going to be happening or even when it is. Has any of that been announced yet?

Well they have the website updated to reflect the dates of the conference, which at the moment I'm drawing a blank on, and they have information about tours, calls for papers and accomodations etc. It's being held at Magdelaine college at Oxford. Here is the link if you want to check it out. Would love to see some familiar faces there.

Sigh, not if flights are the same cost this summer as they were last summer. For some reason, at the end of June it's 600$ to fly round trip to London, and in July and early August, it's pushing $2000...

I hear ya about the flight costs. Imagine how frustrating it is for me being a travel agent and not being able to do anything in the way of flights for myself. But Accio is a pipe dream right now. But like I said I'm going to try everything in my power to get there.
